Hey Musik Give us a team to support in the Swedish League. Anyone play in red and white stripes? Anyone regularly shafted by prejudiced refs? Ideally someone unglamorous with a really bad disciplinary record. Help get us through the summer break. Cheers.

I'd choose Helsingborgs IF, 5 times Swedish league winners currently down on their luck in the Superettan (2nd Division). They have worn red and white stripes on occasions but have a plain red shirt, blue shorts, red stockings currently.
The only way is up (or is it?)

Goteborg down in 14th.
They were champs leagues regular I think at one point.
Hammarby for me due to CM legend Kennedy Bakircioglu.
Gets even better on reading Wikipedia
It is known for its vociferous fans and for having the highest average attendance in the Nordic countries. Drawing inspiration from England, Hammarby fans introduced football chants to the Swedish terraces in 1970.

Hammarby for me. I have friends with season tickets and they sucked me in. They see themselves as Stockholm's underdogs compared to Djurgardens and AIK, though they're based in a highly hip and environmentally focused part of town. They also have the most appealing anthem in all of football I think. Here it is.
A matter of taste I guess-and I'll admit the AIK one is pretty good too! Go Bajen!

The Swedish league is the only(?) top leage in Europe with no VAR. I'm from Norway, so I seldom applaud the Swedes (naturally), but I really envy them this. The supporters and members of the clubs voted it down and it stayed down!

My mate lives in Västerås and we are supporting their team in the allsvenakan this season. Bottom and only one win.
Always quite liked Hammarby too.

IFK Goteborg follower here. Have friends in the city and love the place. Plus, they've been supporting and celebrating Sven-Goran Eriksson and his contributions to the club and football in general.

There are a few teams with connection to Stoke. Mikael Hansson played in Norrkoping before joining Stoke 1999. Robert Prytz were close to ending up at Stoke City, but he was never given a work permit due to having played too few caps. Prytz have played för both Malmo and Gothenburg. AIK now have John Gudetti and Bersant Celina. AIK today was destroyed by Elfsborg 1-6! I live in a region where ice hockey is the big sport, so I don't have a direct favorite team in Sweden. But Stoke have been the team in my heart since about 1972 thanks to Jimmy Greenhoff. :-)

Goteborg down in 14th. They were champs leagues regular I think at one point. Hammarby for me due to CM legend Kennedy Bakircioglu. I saw Goteborg play Waterford and Derby once. My dad was sent to Sweden on business when I was a kid and went with him. Their ground looked like something from another planet at the time and they had 2 pre season friendlies coming up advertised on a billboard outside like some teams used to do. Managed to see both. So easy choice for me.on this thread

I was in Copenhagen on business in 2002 and a Danish colleague got us tickets to watch FC Copenhagen at home to F.C. Djurgarden in the UEFA Cup in what turned out to be a mind numbing bore fest 0-0. I wasn't bothered to find out which team went through to the next round.
So I'll go for Djurgarden (always thought it was Djurgardens).

A creditable 1-1 draw last night playing the wing back system for the first time this season. The green shoots of revival are apparent. Islamovic equalising for us in the second half but with 14 shots we do should be winning these home games. The only way is up.

Djurgarden win 5-0 at IF Brommapojkarna (bit of a mouthful). Could/should have been more. Up to 2nd now but still 5 points behind Malmö.

3 down at half time for a 0-3 loss.
We don't do draws.
Winning 4 losing 5 this season.

If you're after a little history, pick Djurgårdens IF. Stoke Legend Frank Soo (England's first non-white player) managed them back in 1945.
Plus, the name literally means "The Zoo". Their official supporters group is called the Järnkaminerna, which translates to "the Iron Furnaces", which I think is kinda close to the Potters.

Didn't know about the Frank Soo connection though.

It's obviously far too simplistic, but historically in sociological terms the cliche was that Hammarby were the working class club, AIK the middle class and Djurgardens the aristo's.. Not sure if that makes a difference for anyone?!

Not sure if that makes a difference for anyone?! Interesting dynamic with this. Some say that the Jets in the NFL are a working class team and the Giants are more of a middle to upper class team.

The coldest game of football I ever saw was IFK v Brondby in the 'Royal League', which I think was an out of season Scandinavian league. It had snowed for about 12 hours - we had to sweep away snow to get to our seats. It played in the Ullevi (58k capacity) in front of about 7000 fans. It finished 3-0 to IFK, and I think the game was all but over by HT. The Brit was never a cold place again!
