It's not much in the grand scheme of things, but it would be a nice end to the season if we could at least outdo our position and points tally from last season.
We are currently on 50 points in 17th position. Last season we got 53 points and finished 16th. With two games to go, there's a chance we can overhaul that.
We've scored 44 and conceded 60, so we won't be bettering last season's totals of 55 and 54.
Reading all of that, was anybody else surprised by just how abject our final position was last season? We didn't win again and lost five of the last seven after the 4-0 win at Coventry.

I looked at the league table in the promotion season yesterday. We finished second with 79 points (top had 81). Leicester got relegated with 52 points. When you look at the differences, particularly at the top, it shows how vastly different the league is this season.

I just wish a lot more people (myself included) realised how bad the end to last season was and we might have parted company with Alex Neil sooner and who knows how this season would have gone! I think a lot of people got blinkered by the decent March/1st game in April.

Sounds exactly like the end to the season Hughes had when he should have gone during the summer of 2017, the 1-4 defeat to Arsenal on 13th May 2017 should have signalled the end for Hughes, something just seemed amiss that day & the general consensus leaving the ground on our final home match of that season was that Hughes tenure had ran its course!

Would be nice to stay up and to get the result this weekend so then we can ignore the results elsewhere on the last day. Other than that, don't really care at this point

I think a lot of people got blinkered by the decent March/1st game in April. I’ve said it many times. The loanees second half of last season were better than the first half and I’m convinced that they were on a bonus to get past 50 points and probable safety. This occurred vs Coventry when we reached 51 point mark after which the players went down the beach because many of them would not be here after the summer. Thing is at that point many fans thought we could have a good end with a top 10 finish. Instead we achieved 2 points out of 21 which was truly pathetic and very disrespectful to the fans. That’s mercenary footballers for you. I’m not an advocate of loaning players and, with the exception of a couple in the PL, most have been pretty crap.Stoke have a very poor record of loanees.

There’s not many seasons such low points gets you up automatically and I think there’s been 1/2 where it wouldn’t get you the play offs. Still annoys me we finished second to that really average West Brom side. 🤣

No you’re wrong with regards to loan players, far from being crap players, many were excellent but not used correctly or simply out of form while here. Off the top of my head . . . . Harry Clarke, Dujon Sterling Will Smallbone Taylor Harwood Bellis Lliam Delap Matja Sarkic Ki JanaHoever Ben Pearson Axel Tuenzebe Jayden Filigrene Bidace

In the PL Wilfred Bony was the stand out waste and I remember Delap joining in a massive fanfare last season and fizzled out. But it doesn't change my perception that last seasons loanees let us down massively in those last 7 games after showing such promise after they’d settled in by early March. Maybe it was this that motivated Neil to go balls out in the summer with the scattergun signing of permanent players who he could rely on giving us their all.
