I have today received a call from Senior management at BBC Radio Stoke who recognise that the comments placed on social media midweek were used without context and should not have been published . They have apologised for any problems caused as a result.

I think this just goes to show they were trying to create something out of nothing and realised they have been found out

Glad to hear it Ange.
Is there going to be another Rob Adcock podcast/show out this week "2 games to go..." ? or has this fiasco forced it's cancellation...hope not have really enjoyed it!

It was obvious they realised they'd dropped a bollock when they withdrew the tweet. People make mistakes.

It was obvious they realised they'd dropped a bollock when they withdrew the tweet. People make mistakes. Absolutely this potterlog, nothing more than a mistake. Definitely nothing sinister intended by the timing of the release of the clipped quotes from the podcast that isnt a podcast by any person or organisation, sure of that. & certainly no-one meaningfully to cause anyone any harm be it to the club, player, podcast participants or fans in general. Sadly it caused an out of context reaction which inevitably led to some unnecessary reaction from certain quarters who perhaps should know better, who tried to make more of it than it was. Glad Ange has received an apology & hopefully a line can be drawn under it now. Verbal abuse & the like are just unnecessary & never justifiable at the best of times, but certainly never for someone expressing an opinion on something football related.

Absolutely agree with you 100% ….verbal abuse is never acceptable, particularly when it gets personal and threatening. We are all Stokie supporters and I’d like to think we stand together as one. We don’t always agree and we are entitled to our opinions and they may differ at times, but let’s not start fighting amongst ourselves. I’ve always felt that as Stoke supporters we’ve got each others backs, and the trials and tribulations of watching our mighty club can drive you bonkers at times, but because we endure the highs and lows together we are united somehow and whilst we may crack a few jokes amongst ourselves at our predicament, if any supporter of another team cracks a joke at our expense, I will always give’ em an earful …..no fisticuffs mind. I am just a person who supports stoke city, but when we are all together singing I am part of one of the best group of fans in the world and damn proud of it (Even if we are a bit shit at times).

If you have a media profile then abuse is part of the job. Don’t think it’s right either, but that’s the way it is. If you go onto the radio, or even put your comments out there on a website such as this, you could well cop it. Anyone who doesn’t understand or accept this shouldn’t be in that game. As I said, I don’t agree with it, but seems to be the way things are, and in the age of social media, it’s getting worse because so many more people can anonymously gob off.

I get your point, but this is local radio and I like to think it’s Stokies listening to radio Stoke, we are not talking Gary Lineker spouting bollox even then personal abuse isn’t Justified. When we were in the prem, we were looked down on by many, and boy did it feel good to beat some of the hierarchy (Wenger in particular) if you watched match of the day back then it was obvious what the pundits thought of us ….they couldn’t wait to stick the proverbial boot in , I like to think that made us stronger and united us as fans . Just because it seems the way of social media doesn’t mean we have to roll over and accept it, those who feel the need to gob off anonymously should feel the force of a united fan base standing together, let’s not be sheep eh?

Nobody was blaming Ange, I certainly wasn't anyway.
It was Adcock who decided it would be a great idea to stir things up for a bit of cheap publicity for his podcasts which apparently aren't podcasts.

One thing about it all is it was essentially just an opinion. Angela had been asked a question and gave her honest thoughts. It'd be a pretty rubbish podcast if everyone sat on the fence, and I'd actually say what she said most Stoke fans had thought.
The timing and highlighting that opinion was the error from Radio Stoke, so I'm glad they've apologised.

Oh I agree with you, but I think that’s a utopian idea that’s detached from reality. Social media has changed everything, and so people will get an abuse from all angles no matter if they are fans of the same club, or whatever. Some of the things you read these days go way too far, often over very trivial issues or differences of opinion. I don’t that that’s going to change to be honest, the anonymity and safety of sitting behind a screen to voice your opinion in an abusive way without real repercussion brings out the worst in a lot of people

I listen to the Potters Podcast which you do with Ian and it is refreshing to hear honest views being spoken which should always be the case, whether to agree with them or not that's what football discussion is all about and has been since the ball was first kicked.
Criticism also comes with the territory, especially with social media and certainly at times it can cross the line with individuals. Although I'm sure that's all water off a ducks back.
