Affelay played 50 times for Holland you have to be a good footballer. The side that Stoke had and the football in period when we beat Man City 2-nil then beat Everton away was sensational and he played huge part in that time. I might be wrong but he got sent to Coventry by Hughes because he called out some of the played for training poorly and not up to standard. And where are we know fighting for survival in the second tier of British football. I know it’s 9 years ago but poor culture starts somewhere . With success we have had with Dutch players it amazes me why we don’t shop in that market more. AZ have got arguably the best youth training set up in Europe and have been successful in the youth European Champions League, and to address the issue about shopping in the Dutch market, I actually sent a letter a few years ago offering my setvices for free to Stoke if they ever wanted any reports on players or such. I’m in no way a qualified scout but to write up a report on a specific player……? As Clarkson always says ..:”how hard can it be”? Id still do it now if they wanted me to Is there an attainable U21 striker we can get? Ideally 6ft+, mobile, good feet, can play back to goal, can run behind, strong enough to bulldoze defenders, finish left foot, right foot and head? Be able to bring players in. There was a poster on here who had a good grasp on the Scottish leagues and I’m convinced he’s recommended Robertson when he was at Dundee. McGinn, Greg (?)Taylor all before they moved to ‘big’ clubs.

How differently things might have panned out if he didn’t hit the post against Liverpool. That was a seismic one. Never have I seen such a magnificent performance and victory end in utter dejection. With that team, there was no reason why we could not have gone on to win at Wembley.
