Quite possibly the most perfect day watching our beloved club in our history, the scoreline, the performance, the weather, the beer, the camaraderie, everything.........

such fantastic memories of that day even though i wasnt there
sat in a bar in Dubai drinking with Osama Bin Laden's half brother and most of the stoke expats living out there at the time including some of our penny in the pound neighbours and weirdly a luton town fan we worked with, they were non league at the time as i remember.... it was a huge event for our city and a proud day

Never tire of watching the footage back from that day.
Easily the best game of football I've ever witnessed Stoke play in for all the reasons Prestwich describes.

When the goals kept flying in I thought I was in a parallel universe. Bolton manager (Owen Coyle?) showed us massive disrespect with his ultra attacking team selection thinking it would be his team raining in the goals 😆 In the top 5 Stoke games of all time imo along with the demolitions of Arsenal (5-0) and Liverpool (6-1) and the cup final wins.

Have you got time to watch this today? Of course you have.
Watch out for cameos from Nigel Johnson, Denis Smith, Gordon Banks, Mama Sidibe, Salop Diao, Ryan Shotton, Danny Collins and Mochael Tonge.
Maybe it's because of our current side, but the outstanding performances from Shawcross, Huth and Whelan really stood out, even if they went under the radar at the time.

The whole day was perfect. It was a moment I never thought I'd see in the days when we were struggling to get out of what is now league one but that team did it. We will get our day again one day and that's what makes following our club so special to me. For all the shit we go through there is a moment like that day that makes it all worth it.

If only we had that team fully fit for the final
Jones, Walters, Etherington and Pennant weren't anywhere near fit

When Jon walters scored his first and Stoke's fourth early in the second half, I thought we should at least get a draw and extra time...

When Jon walters scored his first and Stoke's fourth early in the second half, I thought we should at least get a draw and extra time... At 3-0 my old man who had been the semis in the 70s kept saying “don’t get carried away, I’ve been here before!” When Walters scored the 4th he looked at me and said “think we’re in the final now…” Bar family stuff best day of my life

The only thing that could possibly have made this day better would have been Wilko putting the 5th goal in.
Roof would have come off.

Every time I see Matty opening the scoring I well up. And then the goals kept coming.

Only started enjoying from the 4th onwards, I was convinced we would blow it.
I more or less remember vivid something from every Stoke game I've ever been to, but that day is all a happy blur.

Sensational day. Still remember it vividly.
Sadly the final didn't have the same aura, for many reasons. A half fit team, missing key players, etc, etc, but for me the gloss was lost because it was at wembley again.
I still believe the semi finals should be at a neutral ground to keep the final special.
It was as if the final was a been there done that kind of feeling.

Unfortunately I wasn't there, it was a toss up getting back to the UK for this or a possible final (which I did).
So I watched in a bar with my good friend, a loyal Bolton fan, and I actually felt sorry for him!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got back the night before, about 2am the game and thankfully tickets and lift already sorted Agree with previous comment, totally took away from the magic of the final having it at Wembley

You couldn't have found 2 equally matched teams at the time which made the score even more bizarre
Everything we hit went in but we were on fire that day. The Pennant run summed us up . Walters goal was fantastic , Imagine if had been a higher profile player

Where I was at least it was one of the strangest half-time concourse atmospheres I've ever encountered.. it was eerily quiet, people just milling around uneasily, almost unsure what to do with themselves. Like every person there was thinking "this seems good but it just isn't right somehow..."
