One of the greats of English spin bowling - one of my favourite players at that time.
RIP Derek.

Before my time but seen plenty of clips of him in action and anecdotes from former players to know he’s a legend of the game. RIP Derek, wish I’d have seen you play

Bloody skilful bowler was Deadly. Came in off quite a long run for a spinner and bowled at what seemed more like medium pace than slow. Unplayable when he got conditions to suit. As the OP said one of my first sporting heroes.

Kind of spin delivered at medium pace wasn't it?
You didn't want to face him on an uncovered wicket on a rainy day.

Brilliant....thanks for sharing. Great catch by Tony Greig on the boundary. Would be classed as standard now so much has fielding pushed on.

Sadly, I only saw Derek Underwood play at the very end of his career when he had already retired from Test Cricket. If he hadn't of joined Packer and then the rebel tour to South Africa, he would probably have taken over 400 Test Wickets, which was a lot in those days. Can't really blame him for chasing the money as cricketers were paid quite poorly at the time. RIP.
