Doesn't even scratch the surface of Vodafone's corporation tax evasion. But makes for better headlines of course......... Can’t condone it though can you? All people who are crooked need pulling up not just the rich. It’s not about the amount it’s about the morality surely? I have an issue with anyone rich or poor trying to cheat the system.

yeh when will we learn. Apparently we get a chance to change things when we are given a general election What a world we could have if we didn't fall for the divide and conquer smoke screen of [Vote Blue or Red] bullshit. We all get steam coming out of our ears over an immigrant risking their families life trying to make a better life for themselves but we totally ignore TV footage of children drinking contaminated water just to survive each day. just look at the UK.... how many people sleeping on streets? Child poverty ? State of the NHS, way under funded and poorly ran etc... etc... etc We get adverts telling us to spare a fiver to save lives, while, as the OP suggests, Big Corp / Billionaire Pigs get more bloated by the day .... Big Corp / Billionaires could, and should make the whole world a better place with their masses of cash they've "accumulated"

When will it stop? Tesco pre tax profits went from 800 million to over 2 billion. Similar profits been reported by BT, BP, British Gas, HSBC, British Gas and others. Can someone explain why we are in a cost of living crisis with energy, utilities and food at record prices. Yet the companies who have raised all these prices are trebling their profits? Feels more like corporate greed to me. But anyway enough of that chat about the ludicrously wealthy and the big corporations. I'm obviously wrong with my presumptions and I'm sure Jeremt Hunt or Rachel Reeves will be able to correct me and tell me to simply ignore those record profits and get strapped in for austerity so that we can speed up inequality and normalise people being poorer ☺️ Anyone voting labour to "get the tories out" is voting for this type of behaviour too. Personally I'd rather inequality tackled but some seem to find red austerity comforting because it's a nice change of colour from blue austerity. Once we have more austerity though you can't complain because giving labour a vote is you accepting and voting for this. Because we don’t tax big companies or rich individuals enough. There is plenty of money to solve (at least partially) most of society’s problems, but it is increasingly held by a tiny percentage of individuals. Until we redistribute wealth properly, it will continue to get worse. Rishi Sunak paid a lower average rate of tax than I did in the last 2 tax years. He and his family is many millions (perhaps billions) times richer than me and my family. I have no problem with mega incomes and mega businesses profits so long as they are paying proportionately suitable tax rates so that state schools can be funded to at least be able to afford hot water and the NHS works efficiently and we can nationalise all utilities and have more police officers and more housing and some social care provision. Make the rich pay. They won’t notice other than they will get richer at a slightly slower pace. Labour have said some very good things recently about closing loopholes used by the rich. The proof will be in the pudding though.

Well there's a face you wouldn't tire of skelping - better put me down for a hate crime. The worst of it is he's obviously fucking incompetent because any Tesco shopper listening to his bollocks will be rightly raging and vote with their wallet. However, no doubt he'll move to another cushy number before the next set of results and his car crash interviews yesterday sully his record.

Big Corp / Billionaires could, and should make the whole world a better place with their masses of cash they've "accumulated" You are absolutely right Fraise. I do not blame any immigrant trying to come to this country or any western country to better themselves.I guess the question is " How many can we cope with and are we prepared to pay the " price" for double so?" Obviously this question is open to many opinions ( some supported by " facts ") and has been subject to much debate on the Oatcake. It seems to me that we ( the UK, or any western country ) cannot accept an endless( tens of millions?) Of refugees without a significant negative impact upon culture and resources. I think Population concern is one of the major issues in the world.Somehow the rich West should help economic refugees in their own country.....if only to spread the world Population geographically. Your other point about the super rich multinationals....You are absolutely right...they should pay their wack AND alot alot more of it to reduce the obscene divide between rich and poor....but ( another polarised repetitive argument on the Oatcake) their should also be no benefit cheats. I don't think it is a case of one or the other, or this tired argument that to point to benefit cheats means " letting the others off". It's both. Two wrongs. Irrespective of which is the bigger. I also think that you make another good point. In my opinion history will show that this technological revolution is as big, if not bigger than the Industrial revolution. We have not began to come to terms with it. There have been many consequences, none the least being the creation of a " Global world " , the INSTANT access to communication and knowledge ( with its problems of " what is the truth?"). One social consequence for me is ....The creation of the anonymously owned and operated multinationals....arguably , with technology, modern western society largely only needs a few people in at the top and millions of workers as delivery drivers/ call centre operatives....the new working class....but isolated, individual... on a minimum wage, easily replaced,no place for unions It is hard to tax people and to get them to pay their dues when they do not operate from this country. I also agree with what you say about the issues facing this country that no political party wants to address, the environment, housing, health, homelessness, law and order....in one sense all have got worse in my lifetime.

Tesco have got a crafty way of confusing people with their pricing displays. On a yellow sign they have a clubcard price while in smaller print on a white sticker they have the actual price. The clubcard price sticks out and thats what most people see. To someone who might not be familiar with it then it can appear that the clu card price is what you will pay, until you get to the checkout that is.

Despite the reported fall in inflation, food and food prices remain inflationary and have not come down to match the fall in inflation itself.

They sell my favourite Williams Bros beer and went in there a few months back - fell for this bollocks and never been back. Can't remember exactly but think my beer / odds n sods Saturday shop was about 20% dearer than calculated in my head. Worse was a lot of the ClubCard prices just seemed like normal prices so the non-Clubcard prices were ripping the absolute piss on certain items. Defo felt my age scrutinizing my bill after and in monetary terms it was probably around a £8-£10 difference imagine that replicated! They're absolute robbing bastards.

I go into shops where the old price sticker is still there but the new price sticker is usually next to it. They are both white and you will check out why they are both there. In Tescos the club card price is yellow to stand out and it does distract you away from the actual price. It might only be a few quid overall but to an older person it can be a lot of money.

Professionally I've dealt with Tesco for about 12 years now, the amount of squeezing of the margins of hauliers, farmers, manufacturers or whoever it may be is unreal.
First they ask you to find savings, then when there's no more savings to be had they ask you to look at "gainsharing" (your profit) or "costsharing" (their cost) initiatives which is just different language with the same outcome..............

136% increase in profits off the back of a 4% increase in Revenues.
They've either landed on a spectacularly good Head of Purchasing....or, they've allowed pandemically-inflated prices, become the 'norm'* and then used it as a platform to dramatically increase margins.
Either way....it's a disgrace.
*example. Remember when Lurpak rocketed to £5.50 during the pandemic? We're grateful that it's 'only' £4.10 now, which is maybe £1.30 more than it was pre-pandemic.
And there will be a million other examples. Beautiful.

My frustration is the way the Big earners, Politicians and Media Corp keep us divided, breeding hatred for "johnny Foreigner" while every general election we get shafted anyway. It's the minority, greedy fuck pigs at the top that are causing so much heartache and despair in the world.....and if they weren't so obsessed with grabbing everything for wealth and power....together they could fix this world. don't understand why we all accept it and miss the real reasons for our shitty lives. For me, those immigrants should be embraced by us all and turn our pitch forks on the real culprits Utopia

Our Co-op had a period where the crisp aisle was empty and even when they'd sorted it out it was weeks before it looked as busy as it was before. Must have cost them a fortune in lost sales beyond just the crisps.

Apparently £15 million of it was claimed under the name of Uncle Bulgaria, Wimbledon Common, London.... After The Wombles’ split in 1976 due to Wellington going solo I’m sure Bulgaria could have run into financial difficulties. Wellingtons ‘76 single (Rainmaker) is what brought the drought to an end that year.
