Planning a trip to the two museums now that they're open. Anyone know if you need to book in advance or just rock up on the day?

Potteries museum is decent, free to go in just leave a donation, took the Grandsprogs last week they loved it. Gladstone is only open on certain days, thank Abbey Brown for that. It was closed during the school hols believe it or not.

I'm no tourism expert but given the popularity of the Pottery Throwdown TV show I'd have thought now would be the time to push the place as an attraction rather than reduce the opening hours, I agree, seems a short sighted decision.

There's a decent cafe at the Hanley museum. I last went when they had the Potters Arf exhibition which was well worth the visit. Nice home made cakes served in generous portions🙂 I can now vouch for this Good day out. The hours of both places mean it's possible to do both - especially if you get there for doors opening. It does seem surprising that Gladstone doesn't plug itself more -or open longer. What are the City Museum's opening hours outside of the current ones (March - Nov). On a side note - Christ, John Street carpark is grim! And considering it's relatively new, it's like it was designed for when people drove (old, proper) Minis and Ford Anglias!
