Physicist who gave name to Higgs boson particle, aged 94. Was 83 when his theory was finally proven by the Large Hadron Collider at Cern.
Way beyond my understanding but evidently a brilliant mind. RIP

RIP I saw some of his calculations on the news - utterly amazing how these sort of people think. A true visionary in his field. RIP

The discovery of the Higgs boson was one those examples of just how incredible science can be. Peter Higgs demonstrated mathematically that you could explain why other particles have mass if there is a field that other particles interact with (the Higgs field) and a consequence of this field was a theoretical particle called the Higgs boson. And years later sure enough the Higgs boson was found to be real. The fact that someone can do some maths that predicts something exists and then years later it is found to actually exist really is miraculous.
RIP indeed.
