Mystic Bayern speaks again. If we had have taken a couple of the one on ones before Burger came on we would have won. Why do you think West Brom would not have scored if Burger had been on from the start? Is it really mystic to think you’d do better with your best player playing? Just seems like some good logical thinking to me 🤣 Because he closes the space Laurent failed to do for both of their goals and he’s one of the best central midfielders in this league? He wasn't even our best midfielder v Huddersfield and didn't last the match. He also needs to cut out the needless yellow cards he's picking up. Our best player is Junho but I think he will be due a rest soon. Watching him at the end of the match I felt that at 20 perhaps he needs a bit of protection from his own enthusiasm and dropping him to the bench for a game might protect him from injury resulting from fatigue.

No he does the basic job of a central midfielder out of possession. He’s a box to box midfielder, it’s literally his job. Whelan had the fortune to play for a manager who when a central midfield colleague of his scored he said “what the fuck was he doing there” to Dave Kemp. Playing Thompson was the correct call yesterday but not having Burger in there too hurt us. It always will as long as we’re at this level and he’s still our player. Well some times he is better than at other times. He seems to find himself on the wrong side of the attacking player quite a lot and has to foul. He would still have not been there to block Asante. I think you over estimate his importance. Yeah it was just a coincidence we lost the game when he wasn’t on and won it when he was. He’s an outstanding midfielder at this level. That’s why you should always play him. Same for Junho.

Why are people focussing on one game? It’s so short sighted and just ridiculous. You don’t drop your best player because he had one bad game. Again you do not drop Junho when you have 5 cup finals to play. Do people actually want us to get results?

We aren’t privy as supporters to what happens behind the scenes with these players. For all we know, Burger might have been feeling unwell, maybe has personal issues, or maybe with three games in a week, the manager is utilising the squad with one eye on two huge away games to come.

Nor do you play a player whose body is near to breaking point and may get a season ending injury because his body has taken enough. The state of Junho at the end of every match it surprises me he can keep going. He takes a lot of physical punishment during a game, is fouled far more than referees acknowledge and pushes himself to run and make tackles. I would hate for him to pick up say an achilles or cruciate injury because his body has had enough.

Have a good day Bayern.

Burger doesn't play 90 minutes very often Thats under two managers he never complains when he comes off his first couple of months we were saying we were disappointed in him Never played in England before and The Championship is especially relentless
All points to a player still adjusting to this league, it's physically really hard
Like to think he'll play more 90 minutes next season

And he looked fit as a fiddle when he came so there’s no need for the ottness either. Junho is strong and fit. He’ll be fine. Laurent was the one yesterday who looked bollocksed.

We are certainly a better side with him in it but you are completely ignoring the fact that on many occasions he has been subbed after 70 mins and it looks like he told the Manager he needs to come off. Even after his rest due to suspension he came off after 80 odd minutes. There is clearly something wrong stopping him from playing a full 90 mins.

I don't recall him playing at Hull and we won there. It is all about sticking the ball in the net. If you can do that on a regular basis you will win more than you lose pretty basic really.

Playing him for 70 minutes is better than playing him for 30. And I’ve said I think he needs to sort his fitness and resilience out tbh. But with that the manager has to start him. The fact the manager hasn’t improved his fitness much in 5 months is another thing.

For all we know, Burger might have been feeling unwell, maybe has personal issues, or maybe with three games in a week, the manager is utilising the squad with one eye on two huge away games to come. But always remember that some have qualities of omnipresence and omniscience. They just need to approach Jon Coates to get him to sponsor their coaching qualifications. Once those badges are in place, and appointments are inevitably made, omnipotence will definitely will be exercised. Everything will fall perfectly into place for every match. There will be no need to worry about individual player stats, fitness data etc., the opposition or lengthy team news threads. 🙂

So you think Burger isn’t the fittest or most resilient? Clever management to manage him so well then. I think it’s bad management to let him get in that state if indeed he isn’t. Quite possibly. Good job Schumacher is in place to fix the bad management of the previous manager.

The reason we weren't winning at half time had naff all to do with Burger or any other centre midfielder not being on the pitch. We created enough to score at least 2 or maybe 3 goals. We didn't due to very poor finishing. Having Burger on the pitch wouldn't have made any difference to that. I'm a massive fan of Burger. I'm pretty sure every Stoke fan too. And I was equally perplexed when I saw the team news. But get off your high horse and just admit that the selected team was good and it was effective. We were the better team for both halves. Laurent was awful for the first goal and was literally the reason it was 1-0. And no. I don’t think he did. 0-2 without, 2-0 with him says it all. He screwed up. The 1st goal was good interlink play between Hoever and Manhoef. Both who had been on the pitch all game. The 2nd a penalty. Burger played very well when be came on but it isn't as black and white as saying we won 2-0 with him on the pitch and lost 2-0 with him off it. We created better chances when he was actually on the bench.

If we held onto that lead until 60 minutes the anticipation would be that WBA would be throwing the kitchen sink at us and we would need Burger's qualities to hold on. Knowing he can't last 90 was it not better to put him (and Leris) on the pitch to make us more solid at the end for the last half an hour? Who would you have started him instead of? Guessing you'll say Laurent but he's captain and not as defensively capable as Burger but very good at driving us forward. Or Thompson who is much better than Burger at sitting deep?

It never ceases to amaze me that people can't grasp that professional footballers are athletes and their bodies have to be protected against a regular programme of three games a week. Footballers are not machines. Some are more capable of enduring the physical demands placed upon them. Burger is a major asset in our squad but the signs have been clear that his physiology is more frail than others in the squad. Withdrawing him from games with fifteen minutes to go proves questionable to many as is Burger not starting? West Brom then Sheffield Wednesday then Swansea are our recent fixtures and Burger has a safe period of two and a half games in him without overtaxing his capability. Ss is doing a great job with his squad of players. The team no longer lays down when they go behind and I believe Burger will play a very prominent roll in our next two fixtures. He had 3 weeks off and then played 1 game. If he can’t hack that then he needs to sort himself. Burger is our best player and when we have a run of cup finals which we have, he should play in every one of them. I have no doubt that SS wanted Burger to be 100% for Swansea and Sheffield Wed. and it was a really good decision to bring him on against West Brom rather than start him.
