Dear all, Leading up to the Euro tournament in June this year, I am conducting some research looking at fans’ views towards the role of football in response to military conflict. I am personally disappointed that football hasn’t ended military conflict by now. It spends too much time pratting around with some stupid round object for me.

Football should be a respite from the travesty's going on in the world, it's escapism from everything, all that matters in that 90 minutes is you and your team getting all 3 points or progressing through a tournament.

Don't think clubs can afford to get too involved in politics. Its a hiding to nothing when you think about it.
And besides they are an entertainment industry so should just concentrate on being neutral and welcoming to everyone so they can just go and forget their troubles and have fun.

Yeah the UK MoD have evidence of sporadic events, the "Truce" was somewhat glamorised in the Times article which was a mash up of several stories. |

If you allow such a person to run your country then there should be consequences from the wider world. I said in 2018 after the fuckers murdered a British citizen on British soil we should have led a boycott on the World Cup in Russia. Things like that matter. Fuck Russia |

Thank you for sharing this. I really enjoyed filling in the survey and it is interesting research.
It's a myth that football can be non-political.
On a national level, football with the national flag, signing anthems etc obviously fosters nationalism. The myth that we are all somehow the same and united in a country with 'English values' etc. It builds support in the public for future wars and military campaigns.
The idea that Rishi Sunak worth £700M, earning £20-30M in passive income every year for doing fuck all, is in the same boat, even on the same planet as 99.9% of the UK population, is lunacy.
From a football association and fans' perspective, Russia should be excluded from future football competitions whilst the war in Ukraine is ongoing. We need to collectively condemn war, invasion and not give Russia any opportunity for sports washing.
Also, I hope fans show solidarity with Palestine as one of the worst crimes of the 21st century is unfolding now - genocide.
At least 35,000 Palestinians are dead, with another 20,000 buried under the rubble. They are being deliberately starved to death as I type. All of this being aided and supported by Western governments, including our own, continuing to sell arms to Israel and who have Palestinian blood on their hands.

It has been shown that Hitler allowing some Jews to compete was a propaganda exercise although he did ban Jewish athletes and sportsmen in an underhand way by expelling them from various German sports associations and clubs which prevented them from competing.
