Old pair of Merrell walking boots have finally been binned after 15 years easily, new pair of Merrell boots now ordered.
Thought about getting a far cheaper pair but paid the price before with blisters etc.
New jacket also so plenty of walking soon

Have never had a really expensive pair of walking boots, although I do try to get decentish ones for cheap when I can. Merrell seem to make good walking footwear. I always go for leather now but had some Merrell gortex walking shoes from Lewis' many years ago and they were brilliant for lighter walks (where I wasn't expecting to get them soaked). I've tried many of the budget to mid range brands and Hi Tec are surprisingly durable. The soles of the Peter Storm ones I bought just 18 months ago have already departed the rest of the boots, so I've just bought some Berghaus Expeditor Ridge off the tinternet. They get decent reviews and seemed comfy as' when I went out at the weekend but like most boots, time, mud and neglect will tell another story.

Have a look on Sport Pursuit, they have a good selection of end of season stuff at decent prices throughout the year. I used thekeswickbootco.co.uk/ I wanted to support a small, local, independent business. They were outstanding. Had a pair of Salewa Mountain Trainers off they, very comfy, great boots but a lace lug snapped off after 6 months. They covered the cost of fixing it, next day the same thing happened on the opposite side. They took the boots back and swapped me for a pair of Aku Altera GTXs. They've been great. A lot of the big brands are value engineering their products and the quality just isn't there. It always depends how intense and environment you're going into but I always prefer to buy the best I can afford.

Recently bought another pair of Berghaus hillmaster gore tex as did the usual thing of wearing the old ones to death. Shouldn't take too much breaking in thankfully, good tread pattern and decent leather.

Had my Bagheera walking shoes replaced after exactly 12 months by another pair of them.
Easily worn out due to pavements and city streets every day.
I have also had other walking shoes and walking boots in my time. Most of them for grass and terrain, hills et cetera, like the grey pair with a very hard, stiff sole. Now gone, thrown away. Still have the Timberland boots though. Reebok have great city walking shows made for asphalt.

I have Skechers D'Lux Walkers. Best walking shoes I've ever had, they're good for about a year of purposeful walking for exercise. I really need to learn to buy three or four pairs of the same shoes when I find ones I like before they get discontinued or redesigned.

Obviously this thread shows we're the exception, the others are talking about footwear lasting 10 to 15 years at least ...

Strangely I’ve noticed a pair of walking boots left on a bench next to the Shropshire Canal, been there for a week or so now.
Got thinking how someone could actually leave their shoes behind 🤔

And there was me thinking I'd invested in a decent pair of Karrimor shoes for £50 from Sports Direct and that was the height of walking shoe fabulousness 😄.. I shall look at these other brands mentioned when I need another pair, these do me fine for the daily dog walking miles

Got thinking how someone could actually leave their shoes behind 🤔 I've done it! Changed into our normal shoes for driving home, put my walking shoes in the boot but left my wife's by the side of the car. Went back next day thankfully still there as they were new and it was the first time she had worn them.

I use my old boots issued to me in Commando Helicopter Force. Brown leather made by Altberg and I was lucky to get the super light special force versions. Look like they’ll last forever, only real snag is I think they lack a bit of grip here and there, otherwise brill for nowt.

Had a pair of Vivobarefoit Tracker FG for several years and have lasted well but do leak in extremely wet conditions
Went over to barefoot/minimalist shoes around 8 years ago due to plantar fasciitis and no issues since

I find this a tricky subject having bought a pair of Meindl Air Revolution Trekking boots last year. They were fine when I broke them in with walking on the flat with two pairs of socks in winter. Then once I went up the Lakes my heels got badly blistered on the fells within an hour. It left me puzzled as to whether they were too big, too small, or wrong socks etc so I use my Merrell trekking trainers when I can at a fraction of the price.

I’d never wear proper leather boots again. Too bulky
My main walking boots are trainer style salomon x ultra. Matching walking x ultra shoes. Both gortex. Not heavy but comfortable
Can’t beat a decent pair of approach shoes either. Got some mammut gortex ones I’ve had for about 5 years. Comfortable as carpet slippers.

Interested to see the most popular on here.... I'm going to Madiera later this year, research tells me I'll be doing quite a bit of hiking. Pproblem is I have a weak ankle due to a couple of bad sprains in the past including ligament damage that still niggles to this day so, definitely want to get shoe or boot right.

One of favourite walks anywhere is on Madeira. Drive to top of Pico Arieiro then walk from there to Pico Ruivo (highest peak on the island) along a magnificently engineered path. Takes you amongst superb mountain scenery that you couldn’t normally get to without being a serious rock climber. www.getyourguide.com/madeira-l67/madeira-walking-tour-pico-do-areiropico-ruivo-t491376/?ranking_uuid=6cfcf2ab-3d86-4894-9911-24a65ba18ae8
