Thank you for your service. Not seen him for about forty years but he was always an exceptional character. Went to the same school and army cadets, a natural leader and example setter even at such an early age. You can but wonder about the things heβs seen and done. Top guy.

He was up at Edinburgh helping out with selection when my grandson was taking part in a course there before he passed out at Pirbright. Probably because my grandson was a Stokie, Melvyn referred to him as "Tom" while he called all the others by their number. Tom said he was a great lad who put him right on the grueling fitness disciplines. Sound bloke is Melvyn.
OS.

I think he was a corporal when I joined the cadets and SM when he left, think he went into Junior Leaders straight after. Us younger lads were in awe of him even then. I didn't know how he'd got on in the army until I was working with a couple of ex army guys who knew him and filled me in on his army career. They weren't ex SAS not sure how they knew him. Very few of us did anything you got to hear about Andy Shankland (not sure if he was in same year as Melv but he was older than me) he was at the Vale and played a few games but never fully broke through.

Doing good stuff for Stoke City's charity profile as well, saw him mentioned a lot a month or so back as he took an active part in the sleep out event. π«‘ ππ» Top work sir π€π»

I didn't even know he was on tv until I read this thread but definitely a special sort of guy who's no doubt put his life on the line endless times in our service. Respect and gratitude to the man.

He was at Willfield at the same time I was although he's a year or two older than me cant remember his exact age. My older brother was good pals with his older brother so kind of knew each other back in the late 70s early 80s on Bentilee.

It was just one of several places I went where I always seemed to be in the shit. Really can't think why?
