Being 30, I grew up watching a lot of the TV shows and actors involved in this. It is absolutely mental that this man Dan Schneider had such a stranglehold at Nickelodeon that he was able to fuck with so many young people's lives.

I honestly don’t know why anyone would allow their child to go into acting at a young age. It strikes me as evidence enough that these shows aren’t filled with children of Hollywood stars - they already know what’s up.
That a sex offender can be convicted, then just move over to work at Disney is disgusting. What they made Ariana Grande do should have raised eyebrows, even back then. It was literally designed to raise more than that at the time.

In the first episode one of the female writers mentions how they got Amanda Byrnes to play a character called Penelope Taynt and Schneider told the writers to not tell anyone it was meant to be a dirty joke and when he was called up on it by a Nickelodeon producer "is it meant to mean the taint?" he says nah no way and they just said ah fair enough and let it go. They just let him do anything.

The series gets awful by the end and does show how the cycle repeats itself. Hollywood can do whatever they want without any major repercussions. None of the Nickelodeon directors or board members will go to prison for child endangerment and neither will any at Disney who decided to hire a paedophile fresh out of prison to help work on a child show.

It's properly gross, it's a bit of the skin "down there" in between two private areas is probably the nicest way to describe it. We still have an episode left but it never fails to surprise/mortify me just how many of these "types" there are in television and children's television more so. And, not to victim blame, but how fucking stupid/thick are some the parents? Like that guy's dad even said to his ex-wife DO NOT leave him alone with this man and what does she do? The whole thing is horrible and they got a free pass because of the success they bring with it. So, so wrong.

Amanda years ago under a pseudonym social media account outed Schneider for doing all these things to her and even outed him as having made her get an abortion when she was like 13-14 but everyone had her down as having a breakdown and talking nonsense

And I agree the parents are shocking in their naivety. Or more likely their desperation for their kid to be a super star. Just like letting your kids have a sleep over at Barry Benalls house to watch videos 😔

Just like letting your kids have a sleep over at Barry Benalls house to watch videos 😔 I don’t think it’s any surprise that a lot of these kids come from poorer households or breaking homes. The kids themselves talk about not wanting to speak out in fear of losing money that their family’s need. The parents in turn, talk about not wanting to raise too much of a fuss about things in case it blacklists their child. Add in people who you get to (believe you) know being good at manipulation + the confusion of having a kid on a set (where most parents have no experience) and it’s a receipt for exploitation. You also have issues on work hours for minors being ignored. A lot of these kids are divorced from their parents later as well and questions can be raised about which directors etc are suggesting that (then the kids are even more alone and dependent upon their bosses). There is way too much of a power play there. These studios earn SO much money from kids. They absolutely should be hiring extra staff on set that have independent powers to call for breaks as well as others that will look to oversee interactions. There should never be a situation where these kids are left 1 on 1 and while that should be a parent’s main responsibility, the power dynamic at play means that the studios should ensure to employ others to be there as well.
