24 March 2024 marks the 80th anniversary of "The Great Escape" when 76 RAF prisoners of war escaped from Stalag Luft 3. Only three got home safely and 50 were murdered by the Nazis.

Fun fact: Peter Butterworth of 'Carry On' fame was one of the principal architects of 'The Great Escape' and the Wooden Horse whilst himself a POW
He also wrote sketches and plays that fellow POW's put on as entertainment.
He never spoke about it after the war and it was only recently whilst researching his father that his son found out about his role.

The idea for Carry On came from an idea a few of a troupe had in a POW camp That'll be a pound BBC News - Carry On films: The star who helped World War II prisoners escape www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-68209738"in Stalag Luft 3, he (Butterworth) was an officer and code writer in MI9, the military intelligence agency responsible for organising escapes from prison camps. It was a mystery to even his own son until long after his death in 1979". Mind you - I'm sure he told you about it in that bar in Singapore where you seem to have met just about every other f*cker!!!!😉

But then again I perhaps don't crave attention quite so much - so you're excused. Night Night.
