I've had dealings with Centrepoint in Manchester and it's a really good environment for young people to get back on their feet.
The downside is you generally have to deal with local councils who refer individuals and it's often a laborious and painful process.
I find their target of eradicating youth homelessness by 2037 pretty unambitious to be honest, albeit that's more aimed at the government than the charity itself as if the will was there......

Looks like they’ll be working with Habitat For Humanity. I don’t know much about which models that Centrepoint are trialing but I do really like HFH. HFH recruits volunteers to train to build houses, fit appliances etc. It teaches novices how to do such things and after a certain amount of time, you qualify for their mortgage program, which is based around your salary (you do have to show stable employment) and is typically very low interest. It’s a great charity.
Ending homelessness is an incredibly challenging task. I really like the Houston model and I hope it’s one that Centrepoint trial. Any model will require a lot of effort from NGO’s, local healthcare centers and completely subsidized rent for a period.
Edit: it’s a shame that Sky News don’t care less about the homelessness project and are only interested in Kate’s disappearance. What a great way to highlight a project while subliminally informing their viewers that it’s not important whatsoever.

I have put this on the Oatcake a few times, but I really hope something in the UK can be done like this: www.governing.com/housing/how-houston-cut-its-homeless-population-by-nearly-two-thirdsIt’s far more cost-effective to house the homeless, provide them with healthcare to get them back on their feet and create jobs to provide them money and purpose than it is to just simply treat them as vagrants and a reason to cross the street. Doing so would also reduce crime. I hope that this project can succeed.
