‘Come Up and See Me’ an absolute gem of a single, in that strange flat mid 70s era between the fag end of Glam Rock and the start of Punk. RIP Steve.

I absolutely loved Cockney Rebel. The last time I saw him was at the Viccy Hall about 25 years ago in front of a very small audience. Rather than being pissed off with the size of the audience he put on the charm and cracked jokes about knowing each member of the audience by name by the end of the evening. The music was superb.
RIP Steve.

Cockney Rebel put out some of the best music and lyrics of the 70s, a fairly underrated band.
European maids, hard to ignore
You, me and the boys, barred from the shore
Fresh-faced imbeciles laughing at me
I've been laughing myself, is that so hard to see?
Do I have to spell each letter out, honestly?
If there's no room for laughter, there's no room for me, for me
Try looking at you rather than me
No truth is in here, it's all fantasy
Since the last time we met I've been through
About seven hundred changes and that's just a few
And thе changes all tend to be somеthing to do
But you've got to believe that they're all done for you, for you
Oh you'll think it's tragic when that moment first arrives
Oh but it's magic, it's the best years of our lives
Lost now for the words to tell you the truth
Please banter with me the banter of youth
If I knew how to say it, I would say it for you
If I knew how to whisper, I'd whisper for you
If I knew how to waltz, I'd get up and dance for you
If I thought I could run, I'd come running to you, to you
I've discovered now how to be fair
This I could teach you if only I dare
The only conclusion that I've reached in my life
Is that if I should die, I should die by the knife
Since it's only a matter of courage, all right
Die a man or a martyr, the two would be nice, so nice
Oh you'll think it's tragic when that moment arrives
Oh, oh but it's magic, it's the best years of our lives

Saddens me to see some of the best things about my youth slowly dissolving away with subsequent RIP posts.
'Make me smile' always did just that.
RIP SH

Always remember remember seeing him at somewhere in the Potteries. Some fan-boy in the audience kept chanting "Harley, Harley" and he just replied "Ah Shaddup"!! Classic

One of the biggest of the 'Ones that got away' for me 😕
Bunch of us used to watch gigs regularly at the Wedgwood Rooms in Southsea, superb little venue, had tickets but never got to the Steve Harley gig, my mates said he was absolutely brilliant.
RIP

An all time classic…..RIP Looking back now I think this was the first time I realised 'attitude' matters as much as the song and Steve Harley had it in spades!

Always like the fact that Mr Soft was used on an advert Come up and see me...Viagra commercial Missed a trick there, should have used Mr Soft for the Viagra commercial with a sad looking man moping around cus he could get his fella up whilst a busty Swedish au pair flounced around in her garters. Feltz would have been a good choice
