Minstrels turned into the Pig and Truffle around 1995 I think. Bars around there were Leadbellys, Trinitys, Quenchers, which was later Millionaires then the Tube. Also had Revolution, Fluid, and Chicago Rock Cafe as well as the Junction, Manhattans and Harpers (I think) a bit further into Hanley plus loads I've probably forgotten, plus of course Valentinos, the Place, Chicos etc. And that's just Hanley.
For numerous valid reasons, the generation behind us just don't go out as much as we did. It's a real shame.

Good times and sad to see it nowadays, add flacketts as well, carpet was like Velcro in that place. Used to enjoy Saturday afternoon drinking in Yatesβsππ»

I started going out (legally) in 2006, and my generation were definitely still going at it and Saturday nights were still decent.. Hanley died off properly around 2015/2016 I'd say and now it's just a sorry state of a place.

My era (of being 16-27 and going out 'up Hanley and Castle) were from 1990 to 2001 - probs about the time of having my firstborn) was a massive change in scenery even then through the Britpop era
1990 (as a student at Leek College and having Student ID saying I was 18 that was accepted lol) was mainly Monday nights out - always Liberties followed by Regimes - some good nights! 1992-96 was a mix of having girlfriends (less club nights) and not (lots of them) and mainly to go out on the pull - pubs not so much but as mentioned above Yates, Minstrels, Reflex (the old one by Britannia and downstairs!), Rosies and then a choice of The Place (never my favourite) and Valentinos (where I copped off with my now wife some 28 years ago!). Would frequent the Foyer but I always thought it was on the edge of a fight, Millionaires etc would be a brief stop on a crawl, Walkabout at some point opened there, and then there were some of the larger pubs like the (whatever the Auctioneer used to be called - Pig and something?) etc. Anyone remember the Freetown club? Even Heaths! Chaplins/Fat Cats too? We used to often meet up at Evergreens and shoot some pool early doors Saturday before making our way up to Hanley
I'm a rock/punk musically, but would go with my mates to the above on the pull, but if with a different set we would be in the Woodman, Stage Door, The Albion etc and Chicos as a destination!
