Front of the Stoke end for me, getting the train from Kidsgrove to Stoke and they were full of Man City fans.
Moores, Hurst, Greenoff, with Hudson behind, what a team.

Epic. Loved the way Hudson calmly passed the ball into the corner for the 2nd goal. The pitch state was typical, Waddington had the pitch deliberately soaked by the local fire brigade prior to games because it slowed the game which suited our play makers. Managers would complain but were told it was a natural phenomenon caused by the high water table from the nearby River Trent. 🤥🤥🤥🤥

I still have to pinch myself when I think how lucky I was to see a player like Hudson play in the red and white stripes. He just seemed to be able to control everything going on on the pitch. Can’t get bored watching this, though I’ve watched it so many times. It’s just masterclass. I love how just he just stands over the ball for the first goal before he leaves Asa Hartford for dead, and wasn’t John Mahoney a bloody good player!

Halcyon days indeed…I would go as far to say that Alan Hudson is the best player that I have ever seen live. Pure genius. What a team that was and if hadn’t been for 4/5 broken legs down the spine of the team we would have romped the league in 75.

Hudson was the best player in Britain for a season and a half.
Head and shoulders better than anyone I’ve ever seen in a Dtoke shirt.
Hudson, Salmons, Mahoney!

He did exactly the same before the Liverpool home game at Easter. The Liverpool players couldn’t believe it as it hadn’t rained for days!

Hudson had one of his rare cameos for England around that time - when we beat Germany 2-0 at Wembley - I am sure the Germany manager, post game, called him a wonder player or something like that.
Looking back that Stoke side were good enough to win the title that year - they were better than Derby

Adrian Heath was from Knutton or Silverdale as well No, I'm from Clayton but I got to know him, in my twenties, through some mates who had been at school with him.

I moved from Clayton to Silverdale aged 11. I played against Crooks at Trubshaw Cross LadsnDads and he easily the best player I'd come across at the time. I played against Adrian Heath after moving to Silverdale and he wasn't as technically gifted as Crooks but was a great runner. Cross country champion as I recall.

It was a sensational day, I had to borrow money off my Mum to go to the game and agree to a list of household duties completed before I could leave the house.
I was standing in the Boothen Paddock next to where Huddy took the throw before his goal.
I remember he and Asa Hartford continually going for each other and every time it was given as a foul they shook hands and then clattered each other again. Staggering to think how long ago it was
