I saw Manic Street preachers and Deacon Blue are playing Trentham gardens this year.
Went on to check how much preacher tickets are. £66 a ticket is! Am I the only one that thinks this is ridiculous or is this just the going rate these days?

Am I the only one that thinks this is ridiculous or is this just the going rate these days? It's the going rate for a 'big' gigs (stadium or outdoor venue) in this shitty rip-off country. I bought my tickets the other week but expected it to be cheaper than that given as it's promoted by Trentham Estate themselves and not one of the big players like SJM or Live Nation etc.

I’ve paid more than that to see just the one band. £66 to see two bands is pretty good I think, especially the Manics who have a big following still.

I wouldn't go and see any band who don't lug their own gear on to the stage.

I'm going to see similarly sized bands for pretty much the exact same price at the Castlefield Bowl and the Apollo, later this year and have tickets for 'big' bands between double and treble of those prices (sadly).

It’s a rip off in isolation but compared to other similar gigs it’s sadly good value. I missed out but desperately want to go as I love manics as a live band far more than an album band

I was going to see ABC in Hanley in January but the price of the tickets put me off, cheapest was £80

The price of concert tickets these days are way above what they should be. I am old enough to have seen loads of bands down the years, but these days I don`t even bother looking as I know the prices will be too high. I won`t pay £200-£300 to stand in a field or go to some big arena to look at dots on stage. just watch concerts on Sky Arts now most of the time. However, if prices are reasonable, I will probably go and see Deacon Blue at Trentham.

The price of concert tickets these days are way above what they should be. That's because nobody pays for records anymore and acts have to make money somehow. Blame Spotify (or if you're a fan of bands from further afield, Brexit).

Blame Spotify (or if you're a fan of bands from further afield, Brexit). Spot on. Bands need to have their music streamed literally 10’s of millions of times to make anything from streaming platforms. It’s not the same as royalties from purchasing the music. Vinyl making a comeback has helped a little but in essence gigging/touring frequently and selling merchandise is where it’s at now.

Back in the day saw Deep Purple and Yes at Trentham (both pretty awful) and then a double bill of Tom Petty and Nils Lofgren (great). Not sure why I went to see the first two other than box ticking. Yes in particular were stuck in the mud with Tales from a Topographic ocean and Wakeman had left. Have a memory of sitting on the wooden floor for all I think but it was a long time ago! Nurse, I need a wee....

As has been said gigging is the only way bands can make any money these days. I saw the likes of Whitesnake and UFO at the Vicky Hall for around two quid a ticket back in the day, I think ZZ Top were only about 4 or five quid when they played there. If memory serves me right it was 7.50 to see Zep at Knebworth. Even accounting for inflation that's loads cheaper than now. Those days are sadly gone.
