I never liked the Umbro diamonds down the sleeve to be honest. This one was the best: No diamonds? Never noticed that one before. There seem to be a few variants of this kit with subtle differences.

Pretty much. But this is my all time favourite - if only because it has some of the simplicity of the Umbro one (collar, perfect shade of red) - but also the watermarked Stoke crests down the red stripes were a stroke of genius: View AttachmentModelled by the greatest Stoke striker ever 👏 Very very very debatable and imo wrong Ritchie, Greenough, STEINO,

Not sure why Macron keep getting slagged off, they’ve done us some nice kits and not just template stuff. Be careful what you wish for

Well since I posted I started to doubt it - I think maybe it does have them, hidden from the camera angle. I could have sworn there was one without but maybe my memory has been influenced by the new replicas they do in the club shop

Stoke only designs and there is only so much you can do with red n white stripes, yet they've produced a fresh look every year. We've had the traditional and last seasons more modern effort. Think people associate them with our downfall which is why they want rid. Good quality stuff too despite what some say on here- i still have 18/19 training top that is in immaculate nick still.

The goalkeeper top I wore at primary school and lads n dads - loved that top! For the lads n dads team started to play outfield and had no outfield top so mum got a hand-me-down off her mate - it was a fucking England top! Fell out with me and my dad because refused to wear it but she dragged me because her mate was there and didn't want to appear rude. Nice top in fairness although my skin was all itchy and broke out in hives from the trauma. Thankfully photographic evidence does not exist of that fateful day!

The closest we’ve come to bettering the Umbro kits were the ASICS kits from 1993-1995. They were simple and classy. However, for me having started watching stoke in 81 those early Umbro kits (even the pinstripe kits which I love) are still top of the pile. Even though the pinstripe kit is much maligned when you see it side by side with the previous Umbro kit it’s a massive leap forward in terms of a more modern looking design for the time period. Love that late 70's / early 80's kit (especially the later 'silky' version) , though I do find it weird that they went for a black background on the diamonds for the shorts, given that black is nowhere else to be seen on the kit outside of the badge and Umbro logo. Perfect kit with that alteration in my opinion. Had it as a kid but my dad tried to fob me off with a dodgy pair of shorts with the older style red and black stripe down the side. He soon got rumbled when a neighbour popped around with the correct shorts. I was not a happy chappy.

Someone on here was saying we've extended with Macron it's just not been announced yet....... That might tally with this line in the email that's gone out about the Fans Assembly next Wednesday : Our kit manufacturer for the 25/26 season will then create a selection of designs based on the discussions in the room, with fans invited for a final casting vote on their favourite at a later date. - almost as if the kit manufacturer for 24/25 will be someone else (Macron?). Or I could be reading to much into it.

Chambo's stance 😉🤣.. covering his town hallies! Not suprised tho, there wasnt much to those red Umbro shorts! Them were the days when shorts were shorts! Remember having this kit as a Birthday present when I was a kid, the shirt, short & socks came in an Umbro presentation gift box. The days when kits weren't mass produced. & I bet there was a time when kits would have been released in kids sizes only.. I think I got the same kit/box . I also got the red trackie top and wore it constantly until it was just too small

Not only is Macron cursed by association for many teams relegated from the Premier League, in general, the brand comes across as lower tier.
I hope we move away from them at some point.

They're not "Top Tier" certainly, but then again neither were Asics (in terms of football) and they did some great kits - which is the important thing. To be honest if I had to rank all the kits from the last 20-30 years , some of the efforts by the "Big Boys" that alot of people worship would be in the lower reaches.
Give me a kit that's been designed with some thought and looks good/wears well over a "name/logo" any time.

I would argue ASICS is a significantly bigger name and brand than Macron ever will be Globally and in general I'd agree - but Macron seem to have an aggressive and deep marketing strategy when it comes to football - certainly in the UK. They make kits for Prem teams and all the way down into non-league (which, granted, probably gives them that "low tier" look). But Adidas and Nike also make teamwear for the lower leagues.... Asics were quite big in the 90's - peak Premier League with the likes of Newcastle, Blackburn, Villa, etc. Then us , Millwall, Portsmouth below that. But somehow they seemed to pull out of the football market - I think I'm right in saying that by the time their deal with us ended, we were the only footie team they were still supplying. Nowadays, Asics are still synonymous with quality running shoes and maybe some rugby kits abroad, but they don't seem to prioritise football like they once did.

They do - but only 3 , if this website is comprehensive. www.footballkitarchive.com/asics-kits/It's an interesting browse if you go though the decades. Their stable was definitely at a peak in the 90s. Contrast with Macron who currently make 484 www.footballkitarchive.com/macron-2023-24-kits/Blimey - just had a browse and spotted this : BCFC kitImagine that with Blue instead of amber and what an ace kit for the 1863 150th Anniversary. Neil Franklin. Not sure why he’s in the photo, I guess it was to showcase the old vs new generation when they did the kit launch. Would love to see articles from the time, because I imagine they knew the kit would be divisive. I'd be amazed if anyone bothered to write articles about a new kit design in those days. I never liked the Umbro diamonds down the sleeve to be honest. This one was the best: That’s the one I was thinking of. Loved that kit with Ricoh sponsor
