Remember most of “us” were clambering to sign him last summer. What’s happened to him? Two sub appearances around Christmas and injured for the rest of the season. What did Southampton pay for him in the end?

I was gutted we didn’t sign Ross Stewart but it looks like we may have gotten away with that one. Still hoping we can sign a Stewart like striker in the summer.

What did Southampton pay for him in the end? Reports differ on the initial fee. It’s either £8m rising to £12m or £10m rising to £12m. Either way, he cost around £300k a couple of years prior. Then he was injured and in the last year of his deal with zero intention of signing a new one. Decent bit of business that one.

If Saints do get promoted this season, do you think there is a chance he could go out on loan next season? If so, would you want Stoke to take a punt on him?

We'd have been better off signing Rod. There was no way we were splashing out whatever Southampton paid for him.

Well considering the club’s bullet ridden corpse is on the precipice of 3rd Div football it’s nice to know we dodged at least one of the buggers !

Slightly digressing, I see that another of our former potential superstar targets scored at the weekend. One Lawrence Shankland. For Hearts in Scotland.

Yep Glad wasn't with us although was a top striker at this level He’d only played 13 games in the Championship before his injury. He could have comfortably gone on to break records or to have his form fall off the cliff. It’s very much a shades of Tyrese story to me.

Of course League one a lot of his Sunderland goals but didn't he gave a great hit rate in those games? Think he had more than our top scorers got all year in a quarter of a season

Think he had more than our top scorers got all year in a quarter of a season It’s true but there is a big gulf. Conor Chaplin (Ipswich) managed just less than 1 in 2 last year and hasn’t quite hit 1 in 3 this year. Clarke-Harris has been getting 1 in 1.5 games for about 5 seasons but only managed 12 in the Championship. Stewart may have continued doing well with a belly full of confidence, or he may well have just regressed. Bonkers money exchanged for him but I suppose that the former Prem teams can pay that kind of money.
