Very sad to say that it appears Gudjon has been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease: www.dv.is/433/2024/02/28/gudjon-thordarson-med-parkinson-thad-la-vid-ad-eg-kaemist-ekki-heim/"There are many people who have it worse than me, but you react when you lose a lot of your health. I was diagnosed with Parkinson's and am struggling with it. It has of course been developed for some time before, but one has stubbornly ignored it and intended to shake it off. But it was not possible in this case."

That's not good news. All the best to him.
He used to drive me bonkers with his 5-3-2 formation, but he got us up (eventually) and deserved a shot at managing in the Championship.

I loved Gudjon simply because he loved Stoke City. I met him a couple of times after his spell here was long since over, as did one of my mates who bumped into him on holiday, and you couldn't shut the bloke up about his time at Stoke.
I didn't think I was ever going to get away from him.
It's hard not to warm to such a person when they love the club that you love.
All the best Gudjon!

Best wishes Gudjon.
I thought he was a good manager who was treated shabbily by his countrymen on the board.

Always liked Gudjon and i thought he did a great job at Stoke. Brought the superb Peter Hoekstra, Sergei Shtanuik and Brynjar Gunnarsson to Stoke when we were a third tier club.

Good luck Gudjon. A true viking of a manager. A travesty that he got sacked after promotion. Who knows where he could have taken us. Some great days during his tenure.

Would love Shtaniuk in the side now. He was immense. All the best with the fight Gudjon. So sad to read how he’s struggling.

I wish I could thank him for some of my best football memories
- auto glass trophy - play off seasons x 3 - promotion - Hoekstra, Shtaniuk, Gunnarsson, Bjarni in the third tier - 30 goals in a year out of Thorne - probably got the best out of Kavanagh - brilliant win ratio - a proper defence Clarke, Handyside, Shtaniuk, Thomas
What a ride his tenure was.

The first Stoke manager I vividly remember and was the start of the best part of 20+ years of highs as a young Stoke fan.
I remember once messing around with my sister on the steps outside the ticket office as we waited for my mum to buy some tickets office. He must've come out of the ground to go home and rather abruptly told my sister to move out his way while I stood there open mouthed at being less then 6 foot away from the Stoke City manager.
I still remember my mum waking me up about 6am to tell me that she'd just heard on the news on radio Stoke to tell me he'd been sacked and me just being in shock lying in her bed listening to the radio about it all.
We'll be with you Gudjon every step along the way. Always.

There was enough happening in Gudjon’s era, with an Autoglass trophy and promotion after the memorable Ninian Park game, to justify a one-time reunion at the Bet 365 in a similar vein to the Macari 92/93 union of a few years back given that there are so many of us still around who no doubt remember it with great fondness. Unfortunately, I feel that the powers that be have air-brushed that period of our history from our records, for some unfathomable reason, which is a pity as there were players and management team members, like Gudjon, in that team that the current incumbents could not hold a candle to.

The last time we had a 30 goal a season striker. In fact we havent had a 20 goal a season striker since then. We've barely had a 15 goal a season striker since then. Scratch that, 10 goals . Got lots of fond memories of Gudjon. He was the manager of my late teens which was an exciting and formative part of anyone's life and I'll always have fond memories of that period and the excitement of the Icelandic takeover with exciting, unknown foreign players constantly arriving. The fever pitch of excitement with the news that we'd signed Rikki Dadason who'd scored a tonne of goals in the Norwegian league, but we'd have to wait 3 months for the Norwegian season to finish in November before he could join up with us. The excitement and anticipation as we waited for him to arrive, then him scoring on his debut off the bench against Barnsley in the cup and it looking like he was going to be the real deal. The blockbuster signing that was finally going to get us out of that shit hole of a division. Obviously it didn't happen and he was a major flop, but it was exciting for a while . Hope things go well for you Gudjon. Best wishes.
