Any advice on decking🤔 hearing it’s pretty shit to maintain, slippy etc. looking at an area of about 15m2. Looked at composite decking but it’s quite expensive. Or should I just slab it?

Slab it and save the dough. I agree, it's a maintenance pain in the arse. The composite stuff is very useful and hard wearing but I'd only use it if you'd got a waterlogged area to make useful. It's not worth the expense otherwise. I knew a chap who had a bad compound leg break, was getting over it, had his cast off and a day later slipped on some decking and broke it again 🤦

Not his fault but shows what can happen if you pursue an extreme sport in middle age.

Most people install decking the wrong way round which contributes to it being slippy. Decking should be ridge side down.

Don’t forget the rats that’ll live under it. Dog will eat them😁 going for the “slab” option now. But how much choice is there😱 maintaining them etc.. Christ I just want to lob em down and job done… So next question.. which slabs are best suited to me (as low maintenance as possible)

I thought they were all reversible to give a different groove appearance🤷🏼♂️ Nah grooves collect water and make it slippier. Having grooves underneath helps with airflow and prevents water collecting so easily. Mind you my dads is groove side up and has lasted near 20 years now with only minor repairs. Does get slippy in winter and I find your best to just slide rather than lift your feet and walk onnit.

We've got this stuff down: www.millboard.com/en-gbIt looks completely authentic, is a piece of piss to clean, doesn't get slippy and comes with a thirty year guarantee. The kicker of course (as you have suggested) is that it is insanely expensive. Is it value for money? Well I guess that is in the eye of the beholder, but we're really happy with it and it definitely does do what it says on the tin.

Looks lovely that does Paul, and completely agree that you get what you pay for. We’re thinking of moving in the not so distant future, so although I do want something down that doesn’t look naff, I don’t particularly want to spend a fortune. After looking at the different slabs available I think that’s the option I’m going to go with👍🏻

Unless you intend staying at your place for a very long time, then it certainly isn't value for money, it would never add as much value to your property as you'd end up paying for it.

Decking looks amazing year 1. Looks OK year 2. Needs replacing in year 3.
Porcelain tiles is the way forward, best thing I've ever done.

So much choice nowadays I don’t know where to start No they weigh a tonne too! I went with 900x600s and they're excellent in wet conditions too as there's a real grip to them. Only advise I would give is don't go with a grey colour (my Mum did) as any muddy footprints show up. Mines a buff colour and they're bang on.

My decking is still in cracking condition, I clean it by jet washing it once a year and it comes up like new. It's about 6years old now and still solid as a rock so it's horses for courses.

Had decking in my last place. Maintenance wasn't bad. I used to wash it with some special cleaner and then just go over the previous decking oil.
It would be non slippy for about 6-8 months but by next winter, it was slippy again. I think it's just the amount of rain.
I never sanded or any of that.
