This is a true story.
I remember playing football manager a few years back while on holiday. I took over at Stoke around Xmas and we were in the relegation zone with about 10 games left, I could not get a win. I feared for the sack. Then all of a sudden we won 6 of the last 10 games. The next season I signed about 10 of my own players and got rid of the ones who were not up to it. We won the league with 101 points.
Are there similarities with Stoke today?

Only if he's spent too much time in Greenwoods!

Yes some very obvious similarities up to and including ‘I feared for the sack’. Wouldn’t it be great if the rest of it came true? So, the first lesson, stick with the current manager.

Did you play with inverted wingbacks and feel compelled to play a favoured no mark in midfield?

I do wonder if I could have been that English bloke who manages on France after playing the game. I was that good after my first season.

I'd raise an eyebrow if we signed 10 of our own players.

Who was playing in your hole? I experimented with many a man in the hole. Wasn’t until season 5 when we won the League cup in that season when I signed Lewis Cook that I was satisfied. He went on to play for England.

Yes & sadly no. Remember finishing the 2019/20 season with a flourish including a final match 4-1 victory away to Forest & everyone went into the 20/21 season with renewed optimism believing we'd turned the corner after MON had a summer of tweaking the squad & thought we'd start mounting a serious promotion challenge. Sadly never materialised!

Sadly never materialised! Yes, that season we seem to play well once we knew we were safe and the shackles came off. O’Neil did well for us considering no money and had a lot to sort out but he never seemed to allow us to go for it until safety guaranteed. Schumacher would have been good after O’Neil ( if that was now) when we were ready to be released and go for it. Now we have a mish mash side that I have no idea what they want apart from the money.

It’s getting very similar to my experience. Keep it up Steven. We are a rare breed.
