Played this a few years back. It’s a decent little game but lacks the depth and replay ability of some of the bigger total war games. There was a bit of a lack of unit diversity so most factions get the same to me. Similar problem with Three Kingdoms but on a smaller scale. I enjoyed it and it’s worth a go if you can get it cheaply. You may already know, but it’s a completely different type of game to CK. The total war games are nowhere near as deep, but the real time battles are fun. If you could find a game in with both you’d be onto a winner. I’d recommend taking a look at Grand Tactician The Civil War for a good balance of the two.

(off to research The Civil War thing now) Cheers.

(off to research The Civil War thing now) Cheers. No worries. $40 seems steep for it. It’s been out a few years and it’s what the developer called a ‘saga’ game I.e. it focused on a specific time period and location, making it smaller than the larger Total War titles. Troy was another, more recent example. Personally, I much preferred Total War Empire, Medieval 2 or Rome 2, as there was much more faction diversity to keep them interesting. They’re all old now but still great games. The war hammer ones are good too. Another series to consider would be the Ultimate General series. They have some really good land and sea battles, and they have a new American revolution game in early access which looks good (seems to rip off Grand tactician in that there is a real time campaign map). If you like CK then paradox games like Hearts of Iron 4 or their others may be up your street.

I bought Medieval II a couple of years back and it came with Britannia, the Aztec one and the one where you colonize India from memory - think it was £25 on Steam. Played Britannia as the hairy arsed Scots and got tore right in amongst the English - wore my kilt, painted my coupon blue and everything! Norway wouldn't fuck off though - ended up needing to befriend both the English and the Welsh to deal with the Vikings first so completely ruined it for me

These similar to Civilisation? What a game that was. I'm still playing Civ VI, fantastic series.

These similar to Civilisation? What a game that was. Very loosely I would say. Both have a world view like Civ, where you can make decisions, build up settlements, move troops, etc. Total War then flips into real time battles and sieges. In CK you can’t view or control battles but can influence them with unit types, knights, terrain, etc. CK is much more focused on the strategy, diplomacy, scheming and characters. Think a historically based Game of Thrones.

I found it way too complicated and boring.
Maybe I didn’t put enough time in but it’s not a patch on shogun and rome

The amount of times my longbowmen pulled me out of the shit. The fact if you could advance enough you could sail over to America and do a bit of colonising was enjoyable but rare fun.
