A deal that sees him at Vale until the end of the season would make sense, he looked past it at Championship level but he’s not the first striker to fail at Stoke, and he was very unlucky with goals ruled out in his first few months here. He might do alright in league one provided he’s not playing as a lone striker.

If he goes there, flops and seals their relegation then he is a hero. Over to you Dwight.

Can imagine him doing well, his finishing was terrible and his confidence was completely shot but his link up play was really good for us in a few games.

I’d rather Big John Gayle. Who incredibly is now 59 years of age. A real specimen was big John.

Excellente 👏👏..... Let me try... There was an old striker called Gayle Who missed a sitter at Rochdale And another at Carlisle By an absolute mile It's no wonder he plays for the vale .... Coat on. There was an old player called Dwight Who played for a team who wore white Their fans loved Tom Pope But didn't love soap And consequently all smelled of pig shite Let me have a go let me have a go! There was an old striker called Gayle, And this is a cursory tale, He couldn't score at Stoke, So in the end, the poor bloke! He had to fuck off up the Vale

For the rhyming possibilities alone surely its a no brainer For that reason they should be looking for a player called Kelly Smunts.

His wages would bankrupt the Fail. What a great idea 😁😁🤩🤩 I think you will find Stoke paid his salary to end of the season, why else would he leave the club

www.derbycounty.news/transfer-news/when-derby-county-expect-dwight-gayle-signing-to-be-done-after-medical-completed/Speaking after the win over Stevenage, manager Paul Warne confirmed that Derby were ‘doing everything’ they could to bring Gayle to Pride Park. As per Stoke-on-Trent Live, Warne said: “I’ve got a list of two names and I’ve gone for my first one and all the paperwork has been done and was handed in yesterday. The EFL are still working with us in trying to make it happen and hopefully it will. We will continue into the start of next week. “It is Dwight Gayle, but I’ve met him and he has a couple of other clubs chasing him. We are doing everything we can to get him in the building. But we still have to follow what the EFL want from us. We have done everything we can but hopefully when I go in Monday morning I will get the news that it’s all done. At least two other clubs are trying to do the same thing with him. We are in the hands of the EFL.”

I don't wish him any ill. He wasn't a wrong un,at all, during his time here. He tried but just couldn't cut it anymore. Maybe that level of football will suit him. You could, however, say we've played that level of football for most of the season and he never clicked. 🙄 Fair play to him that he still wants to be involved in the game instead of languishing on his bank balance. History now, anyway. Move on.

Trying to think of the last player so obviously over the hill, apparent to all from their very first game. Michael Owen?
