We had to win tonight, he recognised that, picked a team and tactics which he thought could do it and they did. Credit where it's due, SS went up in my opinion for recognising he had to win and being prepared to go against his principals to do it. He proved that he can come up with a plan C when plans A and B are not working.
Also enjoyed hearing him say that they'd been working on corners as we'd had a lot of corners in games without scoring and crediting Gallagher for his coaching in that area. Showed that despite not being one of his coaching choices he values his input.

8 I've been saying for weeks that we need to play 3 at back with wing backs. Thompson in middle and millions LWB for Satuday with Baker moving in for Cundle or Bae and jobs a good un. Wesley is made for sub appearance on 70 regardless winning or losing. The problem is that wingbacks + Stoke City = guaranteed incredibly dour, passive football that at best grinds out results. It’s awful to watch, as it was tonight. That’s been true for all our recent managers and it’s no different for Schumacher. Perhaps we’re at the stage where we’re happy to accept that in exchange for points. But I expected so much more from Schumacher given all his talk about positivity, intensity, and his supposed non-negotiables which he’s taken all of ten games to completely abandon. Simple. If he doesn’t abandon them we go down. We don’t have the players to play the expansive football we saw in the first few games without conceding 3 goals a game…. And we can play as much expansive football as we want, we can’t hit a barn door. So expansive attacking football where we out score the opponent isn’t going to happen this season. I’m more than happy for us to grind out results to safety this season with the plan to recruit properly in the summer and not end up with last minute rush jobs

Very pleased for the team and SS. We did what was desperately needed and took all 3 points. We needed to be compact and defensive from the start. As much as I think Vidigal will come good next year, he's not strong enough for this league at this point. Too easily pushed off the ball and tonight wasn't a game for a soft touch.
We would all like to see flair and flash but we need to grind games out from here on in. I don't think Cundle is the type of player for that style of game so the likes of Laurent, Pearson and Leris should see more sub time. Really want Million to be added as an attacking option against weaker sides.

I know we can’t play gung ho attacking football, but that doesn’t mean his “pass forward” ideology has to go entirely out of the window. How many times last night did we see Thompson cut back and pass back to one of the centre backs rather than try to slip an early ball through to Bae. At least six or seven in the first half alone. And then as often as not, having been scared to take a slight risk higher up the pitch, we ended up getting pressed into having to take a risk further back anyway, or just conceded possession by hoofing it away. We need to be braver on the ball, which doesn’t have to come at the expense of structure.

10 He showed he's not a one trick pony. We set up differently but QPR didn't have a sniff. The team worked together, doubled up them when out of possession. It was a solid performance and a much needed home win. We didn't create as much as we could have but the confidence was low so will take any win.

We played a 3421, just what we needed to shut things at the back without playing a DM. We were a bit too cautious for my liking in the second half, but we got the job done. Played Junior, (who is decent player) out of position was ludicrous. Wasn't out of position, he's a wingback as well as a fullback. He was wank however. Vidigal who is more of a threat inside instead of the wing was left out? Works his socks off and is our best forward. If one player deserves to be called a fanny, it's Vidigal. He'd be a Fallon d'Floor-winner if we played in the PL. Jordan T for all is effort is too lightweight for full back. He's no fullback, but was ok. Bonham is a better keeper than Iverson Did you see the game at all? Iverson came out and caught crosses all game. Bonham would've flapped on at least three of them. Gooch should have started, so should Wilmot who is by far our best central defender. Must be a windup. Gooch was just as good as Junior, but Junior did alright defensively. Gooch is 3' and useless for defending crosses. And as much as I like Wilmot, it's not a coincidence that we kept a clean sheet without him and let in 11 in 4 with him. He needs to regain sharpness before he can come in. (Hoever,)McNally and Rose as CBs for me the rest of the season. We were often pegged back by a team who in fairness were better than us for long periods. True, because of the tactics. Positives Good individual performances by Burger, Bae and Ennis and to be fair QPR didn't really trouble our defence. SS needs to identify our best players and stick with them. We need a settled side. A win is a win so lets hope it improves Finally something I agree with! And by id'ing the best players and stick with them he should keep Iversen, Hoever, McNally, Rose, Burger, Baker, Bae, Cundle and Ennis on the pitch as much as possible. The rest can be rotated according to the gameplan.

I like what he said at the post match interview
It was a huge game - we knew we were coming up against a team who are very close to us in the league table so it was important for us to get a positive result, and most importantly to get a win at home which has been a long time coming.
"We had to defend well in the second half. It wasn't the best game of football to ever watch, but at this stage of the season that doesn't really matter, the result is all that counts.
"We built up a bit of momentum just before half-time and I'm really pleased to score a goal from a set-play.
"If it has to be a battle in the run-in then so be it. If we can play nice football where we can, then great, but results are all that count."

Gets a 10 from me.
That was always going to be a tight, tentative.. shite game. The last 4 results have been horrendous and we HAD to get a result last night.
The tactics changed to suit the need for calm and composure in a game that was a real "6 pointer"
All that mattered was we won, and we did that.
Well done Schuey!

I'm guessing you would have preferred a 1-0 loss playing four at the back? That formation hasn't been working and we needed the win. We did what other teams do to us. QPR manager has even admitted that our formation threw them and they couldn't get past us. Talk about being pig headed. It's a good job Schumacher is prepared to compromise to get results!

4 and I’m being generous It was a lucky win for which he deserves no credit Between two shite teams the Gods today chose to regale us with the 3 points It could have easily been the other way round No offence mate but you’ve slaughtered last nights performance and management tactics It’s worth pointing out that you implored the club to get him gone and employ Neil Warnock The total fucked up irony is that a Neil Warnock side would of played that match last night no different to how SS did and I’ll guarantee you’d of been jizzing over it saying that’s what we needed The same with the Pulis boys

Had to win Biggest game for years Clean sheet
(Horrible to watch)
Personally would have swapped roles of junior and Hoever. Maybe Laurent instead of Cundle, but marginal

Pulis came here and just managed to keep us up in his first season. Took him another 4 years to get us promoted. May be in for a similar ride!

Well compared to the AN must win v Sheff Weds, this was a far more focused and effective approach to a must win. So it is a solid 7, although taking off our 5 key players with 10 mins to go gave me a little cause for concern…

We got the win. It wasn’t pretty as most have said, but it did remind me of a Neil performance. We weren’t exactly moving the ball forwards and it was a lot of sideways football.
It could have easily been 0-1, or 0-0. Fine margins.
As Schumacher said they dug in and there was a lot of effort from the likes of Baker who I saw sprinting lots of times to get back in front of the defence, but let’s be honest we play like that on Saturday and we will likely get beat as they have much more quality than the the 2 fakes cha cha to the left and then a Shimmey to right chair who plays for QPR. I lost count how many times he did it last night and it worked everytime.
He needed it, the club needed it. I saw effort and determination and that was just about good enough for last night.

10, I am impressed, he did exactly what was required to nullify their play and get the result we needed. Shows he can adapt to the situation. Something Jones couldn't or wouldn't do.

Needed to win - won (tick) Dropped the awful Johnson (tick) Kept a clean sheet with some bodies on the line solid defending (tick)
Solid 7.
I'll take 4 or more dirty 1-0 wins if that what it takes.

8 from me, we won a must win game. -1 for a lack of an open play goal -1 for not managing to get Million into the team. If we’re going to play 3 at the back we need wing backs who can contribute going forward and he seems the obvious choice.
