Just about treading water. We have rolled the dice on yet another manager - inexperienced, going down the 'man of the fans' route. To be fair, the club has not used this approach yet. It appears to be winning a few over early doors, but a couple more losses and we'll be losing our shit. The common denominator (the board) over the last few years hasn't really changed. You can keep buying waist 34 jeans to fit your 40-inch waist, but until you lose weight, you're gonna keep bursting those jeansš The āboardā is basically the owners with the addition of Richard Smith who I āthinkā is a property/assets man and John Pelling who is the CompanySecretary. They appear to have changed direction in respect of the management (structure) of the football side of the business by appointing a; - Managing Director (Richard Smith who is a Board Member) - Chief Operating Officer (not a CEO) - Technical Director (Not an imposter AKA Cartwright) - Head Coach - Head of Recruitment Without seeing an organisational structure I assume; - Richard Smith is Top Frog (reporting to the owners) - Simon King (reporting to Richard Smith) - with the responsibility of ALL things SCFC - Ricky Martin (reporting to Simon King) - with the responsibility for ALL things football Of course I could be completely wrong ššš

Yes we do have to give it time, but weāve been here before, over and over again. Some fear that we are just repeating the same cycle again, the same mistakes. Iām undecided but Iāve got to say Iām not really seeing much to convince me. Weāve just had a thrashing. We are very likely to follow that up with two more thrashings. Depending on other results we are quite likely to be properly in the relegation mire after that. 3-1 away from home against a team comfortably above us in the league, sitting just outside the playoff places, does not constitute a thrashing, especially when you take into account we had more possession (58%) and nearly twice as many attempts (15 shots, 4 on target compared to their 8 shots, 5 on target). We didn't play particularly well in that we missed a load of chances and made some mistakes at the back, but it was certainly not a thrashing. For me a thrashing is either when a team puts 4 or more past you without reply, or those games where you struggle to create anything as the opposition completely nullifies you, or both (see the games where Bayern Munich and Real Madrid visited Manchester City last season).
I'm sure we'll struggle against Leicester, so things are likely to get worse before they get better, but we were never going to magically turn things around and go on a winning streak - we started the season with an imbalanced squad, a huge number of changes, a shaky defence and no real goalscorer. We're going to have to battle it out until the summer as there is no way we're fixing all the issues in this window. We are in a relegation battle yet again, but I think we're unlikely to go down and I do think we've picked the right manager for the job.
To be fair Sunderland did actually score 4 š

The difference this time is that the owners have finally realised that the god manager role is old hat and doesn't really work now. Schumacher has a completely different job description to Jones and can focus on his skillset rather than lead on virtually every other aspect of running the club. The board may not have changed but the way the club is run has and it's too early to say how many it will work out. What's interesting is that the usual suspects who would be slagging off Schumacher after his first two defeats are currently slagging off Martin and Jarrod but I'm sure that won't last long.

You do know who Richard Smith is? I didnāt. Ā My original point about the Board being the owners then is correct. Ā The top 2 (day to day) frogs being Simon King and Ricky Martin. Ā Replacing the one and only Tony ScholesĀ Yup very much a family affair with nobody with any real football background involved. Donāt think Simon King has anything to do with the football side even the financial aspect so doubt RM reports to him, directly to JC I imagine who also takes all the financial decisions under the advice of the bloke who was club sec. Imo itās a better structure. Iād still prefer JC to hand over to someone with a history of successfully running a football club and DoF sporting/technical director to have a clearer football background than RM but at least it leaves Schu to concentrate on an area he knows and not have to learn how to run a football club from top to bottom.
