I can just picture the scene in stoke where people are queuing up to catch a gondola to the stadium. Gondoliers uniform would have to be vertical red and white stripes though(and possibly flat cap) Obviously have to remove all the shopping trollies etc from said canal first..

Gondola’s to you too … It’s all well and good with these ideas , that’s the easy bit .. what about the important - bit what size stripes and how many and what colour collars are the gondoliers going to wear.. think youd need to retain the shopping trollies as buildings of historical of interest to be pointed out to the tourist type fans by said gondoliers ..

Create an additional tier on the boothen end, replace central exits with seats and put exits at ends, bit like spurs end 😜 Make south stand away only. Reduce ticket prices by 50% and also kids for a fiver and we will fill it every week.
Then again buy a striker??

Close a stand and let the players see the deterioration of it as it gets stuck in time

The serious answer is yes it can be expanded.
First phase is corners, to complete the bowl.
Next phases (from recollection, in order) would see East, North and South expanded upwards. North East and South East corners could be increased too.
There is no option of digging downwards to expand capacity - due to both the structural aspect but also the sightline requirements.

If I had Coates' money I would sell it and build a new one near a population centre that has good transport links and a few pubs. Preferably Stoke but a redeveloped Etruria may work. I think our new ground is shit, always have done, always will do.

Stadium is fine, agree Location isn't great yep but at the time we wouldn't have wouldn't have got a grant building elsewhere and be congestion no matter where we built. On average , 10 k more people nearby than when I went to the Vic as a kid and not everyone drove in those days so always going to be traffic problems. Would be the congestion no matter where really

You had the bus services that stopped off by Bourne Sports and the train station close by.

When I started going, crowds were on average 12-14 k as well, not the packed houses every week some remember . You'd get a huge crowd for the massive games of course but rare. 25;k at the Vic today wouldn't work either with the increased number travelling by car let's not kid ourselves. Building the ground elsewhere wouldn't have automatically solved traffic congestion

We Should have revamped the vic, people will say it would have cost too much. But other clubs have done it.

Knock it down and rebuild at Fenton manor landfill site, walking distance to stoke and the railway station, exits onto Victoria road and city road.

Building the ground elsewhere wouldn't have automatically solved traffic congestion I agree with that. Although, the regular bus services to Stoke itself would have encouraged more people to have used public transport, which would have helped ease the pressure of traffic a bit.

My Dad used to park by Uncle Tom's Cabin. Were so few cars going to games in those days also . When I started driving I would park at the Black Lion and walk, again no traffic If you look at the congestion on the A500 on non match days coming off at say Hanley on a weekend , is bad enough sometimes and a ground elsewhere with 24k people wouldn't automatically solve a traffic problem we didn't have 30 years ago I guess old stuff will always be remembered better than it was and what what we didn't do as well would have been great

Knock it down and rebuild at Fenton manor landfill site, walking distance to stoke and the railway station, exits onto Victoria road and city road. You want to go from two dual carriageways with links to major motorways... To two single carriageway roads? In the town centre? And think that'll be better? 🤦😂

There is no redeeming feature of the bet365 at all.

Wasn't possible to build on the old site as it stood with a huge outlay Was looked at and not possible from the off The current location meant a grant was also possible. It isn't an awful stadium at all ..suits our needs and a bigger capacity than we really need . A cliche some just repeat . Is nothing special but what new ground at our level is. Without Clarke and the current location it simply could never have happened. Clubs like Millwall were putting our ground to shame The other stadium design we had gave less scope for capacity increase although on paper a nicer design. Some seem under the false impression that we could have built elsewhere just as easily, simply couldn't have. The location played a huge part it coming together What are these newer grounds at our level with redeeming features? Boro, Reading?

There was a chronic lack of funds and vision at the time though. A revamped Vic would have looked horrendous. At a push we might have seen a new stand on the Butler Street but the rest of the stadium would have seen seats bolted onto existing terrace steps, or maybe even closed off completely. It would have held about 23,000 with little to no chance of further expansion.

It would have held about 23,000 and looked terrible. West Brom did that with some terrible views as a result I don't think was lack of vision, I think with what we had was pulled together pretty well with room to improve if the time came which it did . The other stadium design was more like Huddersfield and didn't give that so much at all. The Vic was a wreck and archaic no matter how some try and remember it, the facilities were dreadful including corporate and as you say, would have been a terrible idea. We did the correct and sensible thing, just a shame we didn't have the money then we do now of course

They also have plenty of space in the immediate area to utilise and that, in the end was the key reason for us having to leave. If money was no object, the perfect solution would have been for us to utilise the one area of the site where we did have space, namely behind the Butler Street, turn the pitch around 90 degrees, redirect the river (not impossible), and build out towards where the training pitches used to be. Almost like constructing a new stadium on the existing site.

Was also the issue of disruption to traffic. Also the issue of us not having a home for a season and things were very spiky with our friends up the road at the time ..in fact it could have been longer. It simply was never viable given the surroundings anyway Just be grateful they didn't put the original seat style in at the Britannia that they were considering...
