A bit of a random post but seeing him on the premier years on Sky, getting relegated with QPR brought him to mind.
To be honest I’d forgotten about him, I always liked him at Stoke, underrated a little. Remember being surprised he played in the prem.
Didn’t we play him Left back for a while?

My sort of a centre back - no nonsense and a little bit mental. Not the greatest footballer but wish we had someone like him in the team.

Ah Taggart, now we are talking. No nonsense, a little bit mental and a good footballer. Just coming to the end of his career but I remember one reporter describing him in a game for us as someone who looked like he'd watched a video of the game the day before because he always seemed to be in the right place at the right time.

In the middle of defence, Clint Hill. Was he left back for QPR. Sure he played that position. I know by trade he was CB

I liked him, but he was a bit too injury prone.
Strangely, we swapped him for Leon Cort. TP went through a phase of having one tough centre back and one less aggressive one during those two season when he returned to the club. The year before, he brought in Jonathan Fortune, who was a similar player to Cort but without the goals. Our defence was surprisingly weak when we were promoted.
Thankfully, he went back to putting two horrible monsters together at the back when we got promoted.

A no nonsense defender. A few of us met him in Frankfurt during the 2006 Germany World Cup and he was a top bloke and very down to earth. He was telling us about Boskamp and what a fucking nutjob he was

Like Huth we wrote him off and he went on to have his best years elsewhere.

Like Huth we wrote him off and he went on to have his best years elsewhere. To be fair, we went up that season. He only had one year of regular football with us. He was a good defender but he couldn’t stay fit and by the time that he could, we had a defence that saw us finish 2nd.

Pulis tells a story about that too. He said he was always under pressure from the board to use the Icelandic players but always favoured his own players (Taggart being one of them). After one of the games he was summoned to the boardroom, and the chairman said ‘Gerry Taggart is the luckiest player in the world. Every time the ball came into the box it landed exactly on his head’ Apparently with zero irony.

I liked him
Preferred him to Leon Cort who we swapped him for
Still, Cort scored some important goals for us in our promotion season so probs have to give TP that one
