'will remember the fuss' It's not a 'fuss' which seems to trivialise it. Personally the Stoke management enforce reciprocal arrangements for them and refuse entry to anyone with anything at all in their pockets when they visit. They would soon get the message

They would soon get the message I certainly don't want or intend to trivialise it, seno. The Club (stoke) have asked me to keep them informed in real time about how it's going. So if anyone has any problems, or think the stewards are handling it inappropriately (last season we had a steward putting his hand in someone's pocket ) it would be good if you let me know ( Block P32, Row 9, seat 67) (once described by the New Statesman as " A man of many parts - clumsily assembled" - if that helps to spot me ).

Can you bring cake?
I like a half time Mini Roll , sometimes I can't wait and eat it on around the 35th minute
Why don't people bring sweets to games any more?

The power bank is the issue for me. The kids will watch you tube etc on the train and il be having a few bets and reading the oatie! I just cant see why anyone would be throwing a power bank anyway? How on earth are they going to police all of these searches, if it’s anything like the usual ones I won’t have too much to worry about. So il be taking a vape and powerbank. The coins il chuck in the charity buckets no problem

Everyone's tastes are different though I guess.

Meanwhile, European hooligans run riot with flares and fireworks whilst being seemingly untouchable.
For instance the Germans who attacked a pub in London and were allowed to run off.
The average age of English football supporters is now around 80 and they have their coins confiscated 😂

I have just finished my meeting with Steve Neill, Sunderland safety officer, as a result of which he has CANCELLED today’s “ enhanced search”. Great result. Many thanks Steve. I really, really hope and pray that no Stokie will be stupid enough to throw anything on to the home fans below !

Excellent work reflecting supporter representation/engagement It no doubt came too late for many fans - I gather police boarded the coaches to say no coins etc and many have left items in the coach/ cars but better late than never and to be fair Steve listened to my points and we had a very constructive discussion.

Malcolm, whatever you did/said improved the match experience by a million miles today. The stewards at the turnstiles were friendly & had a laugh, never checked us for change or went through my wallet. Our tickets wouldn’t scan for some reason so they made a joke of it & just let us in… in the concourse the stewards came over & had a chat/laugh with us whilst we were having a pint.
My point is that compared to last season the match day experience was different class. I’m assuming that it is down to you Malcolm - thank you.

I am still en route back from Sunderland and have received the email below the Sunderland Safety Officer. My worst fears have come to pass. To say that I’m disappointed to learn this is an understatement! I’m bloody furious. The coin throwing has undermined what we achieved in our discussion and has damaged the reputation of our Club and our supporter base. Even more importantly throwing coins can also cause serious injury to fellow supporters. A young Sunderland fan was injured in this way which is how their policy came about in the first place. I will talk to our Club about how they will respond next week when I’ve calmed down a bit ! Damaging seats is of course also unacceptable
Hi Malcolm,
Thank you for meeting with me today, it was good to speak with yourself and Zara at length to better understand the issues raised in relation to the Enhanced Search at the Stadium of Light.
As you know I withdrew the Enhanced Search shortly before going to turnstiles today.
Unfortunately a number of Stoke City supporters threw coins into the home supporters below them.
Following a review of CCTV one Stoke City supporter was arrested and a further ten were ejected for involvement in coin throwing.
As mentioned in our meeting we have implemented the Enhanced Search on a minority of matches, and up until today had not had any reports of missiles being thrown by away fans.
As an aside a further 8 Stoke City supporters were ejected for damaging seats.
I hope you both have a safe journey home, and I hope that you are able to introduce our discussions into the national bodies with whom you are engaged.
Best wishes and Regards Steve

Malcolm you are a credit to the club and English football in general.
What a shame the idiots associated with our club have undone all the work you have done in the build up to today’s game.
I’ve come to the conclusion in recent years this bunch of idiots we have attached to the fan base (not only immature youngsters, many immature “men”) will always be there and have sadly halted my attendance at most away matches - I hope it hasn’t put many others off. The club are powerless I feel to stop them and it seems now it’s an acceptable part of the “away day experience” - not for me!

I sometimes wonder why I bother ! I’m guessing that it was the lads just above me… I saw around 10 Stoke lads kicked out just before half time. I never saw any coins or missiles thrown but I wouldn’t have as I was watching the match. I get that you say sometimes you wonder why you bother, however Sunderland cannot punish us for the minority of supporters. I got searched/patted down on the way in & I am more than fine with that. What I am not fine with is treating us like criminals. Last season was way over the top, this season was completely different, down to you’re work.

Clearly they were. But the safety rules were relaxed after the OP met the safety officer? And then look what happened Civil liberties campaign eh? Ended well didn't it. People pelted with coins shrugged and said am still glad they had coins as taking coins off people who might throw them is a breach of their human rights

If I was a Sunderland fan i'd be asking why in this day and age are you housing away fans above me and my family, when you know that most clubs have their fair share of imbeciles following them away from home?
Then again, i'd be asking why my club laid out the red carpet for Newcastle United and dressed parts of the stadium up in their colours and slogans. Seems brains are a bit thin on the ground up there.
