I don't think he was fully fit when he was here and maybe he wasn't happy either! Lots of maybes.
Lots of things can happen in life so it's not worth making assumptions and using it as a stick to beat anyone.

He only played a few times then got injured again and we sold him. So i'm not sure where people are getting their memories of he was good and a presence for us from 😂

He's doing really well for Luton, and for my fantasy team on occasions. Fair play to the lad, shame he didn't get more chances here.

The few times he played for us he was quick and had a tremendous work rate that put the whole rest of the team to shame. Yeah, he was just coming back from a bad injury, but I was very surprised when we let him go. I blame MONs fetich for wingbacks, as he was a winger when he played for Charlton.

Yet apparently playing as a wingback in the PL. In my opinion, he was just a victim of circumstance. He came in following a long injury. At the time, Tymon was doing really well. MON was not the best manager with regards to substitutions and despite Doughty being on the bench, Tymon was rarely taken off when knackered. Doughty got 1-2 little chances when Tymon’s form dipped, then he picked up injuries (expected after a long lay off). At that stage of his development, he needed a team that used him to his strengths. We weren’t going to do that. He could have stayed and become an awful player for us now under 18 months of AN.

Really pleased for the lad. He got out of here before he was struck by the SCFC curse (aka crap management). Hopefully those days are behind us.

Are we on about the same player? He literally made zero impact in any game he played for us (which admittedly wasn't many) Watford away in the Carabao Cup he was outstanding, pace, skill and work rate. Tymon played left of a three in midfield and we were a threat every time the ball went left. Bizarre how he hardly got a game, clearly the fastest player we have had for some time. Him and Jack Clarke, who was also written off by most, would be a step up on our current crowd

When he left I was glad we got most of our money back as he was a walking sick note. Good to see him doing well, but I fully understand the decision to let him go when we did.

He looked decent when he played for us, just the sort of player we needed yet we got rid just as he was getting back to full fitness, totally baffling decision to get rid.

Doughty didn’t get many chances, but on the few occasions he played, I thought he made little impact.
At the time we sold him it seemed good business to recoup what we paid. Fair play to the lad though, as he’s now playing Premier League football and having a good season.

pretty confident that we will have stuck a decent sell on clause when we let him go, as we let him go for same as we paid for him

500k and just over a year later he's doing well in the premier league.

As some have said, he came here injured and for some reason was shipped out rather than developed. Certainly our loss and Luton’s gain. www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alfie-doughty/profil/spieler/608175Valued on Transfermarkt at £4.5m

Are we on about the same player? He literally made zero impact in any game he played for us (which admittedly wasn't many) he had an excellent game at RWB away at Fulham (he may have come on a sub, can't remember) most definitely had an impact, couldn't understand why he was tried at RWB again had an impact in other away games too, can't recall him doing anything in any home games he was injured when we signed him, then Tymon came back that summer with his best season by a mile didn't settle in the area either apparently

If anyone could be arsed to put together a list of 'Least Memorable Stoke Players Of Modern Times', he'd be on there.

And probably worth something in the region of £15 million if he was to go in this window.

MON just didn’t have time for him when he came back from injury. It always felt like a strange signing from the get go though really.

MON just didn’t have time for him when he came back from injury. It always felt like a strange signing from the get go though really. Yeah was always a weird one, the fact we signed him for money when we had none, 6months left of his contract and was going to be injured for about 4 of those. Signed as a winger and MON immediately went to 3/5 ATB. Then never really game him a chance even though (as we have since we came down) we were crying out for pace. Especially as Tymon was being flogged. I’m sure there was some rumours about him struggling to settle and going ‘home’ partying quite abit wasn’t there?

Yeah that figure would be inflated with him playing in the EPL, you’d pay near that for a decent player in the Championship

MON was desperate to sign him - even with a bad injury. I think the issue was he didn’t settle up here - he’s from London and I think he wanted to be back there. Probably didn’t help that he was injured for so long - wouldn’t have helped him settle in etc. A shame, could have worked out far differently

Never rated him at Stoke. Useless
Unlike Clarke who looked good till he got injured..Still prefer Jack Clarke over Doughty..
