Not sure if posted already… Told to get on a coach after the match when all he wanted to do was go to his car… Good on him for striking back against a totally unprovoked assault. Looks like it justifies a similar ‘reverse prosecution’ theme as with the Post Office scandal. The instigator(s) throws weight around leading to a prosecution, when it’s actually that party that should be prosecuted. Just another variation on a developing state of lawlessness. Fortunately, exposed by picking on the wrong one to bully this time…. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-67949379

Same old Police forces. We were talking about this kind of behaviour 30+ years ago.

If he’d had a Palestinian flag with him then there would have been no issue…perhaps we should all carry one (jokes).

All football fans are second class citizens in the eyes of the police, fair game to them.

Had an experience at Walsall in the 80s with my mate watching a Preston game. The copper just stood in front of us all game, everytime we moved so we could watch the game he followed and blocked the view. Eventually we sat on the terrace hoping he would fuck off and he just kicked out at us. Counting my trips to Villa and Birmingham in the mix and I'd say WM police in that period were always up for a fight with away fans. I'd go as far as to say a certain kind of copper chose the shifts.

WMids police have always been the same, we stopped going to Birmingham away they were that bad, just thugs looking to provoke a fight wherever they could, inside or outside the grounds, shameful police force picking on easy fodder.

Different Millennium, same old nonsense from the same old Police Forces. Yet if someone was raped in the Birmingham area they wouldn't get off their arse and file the report under B. I always remember asking a WM copper "the best way back to the station (mid 80s)". The reply was "any more nonsense out of you and it's back of the van!".

Sadly Staffs & West Mids seem to interact with each other for policing matches now especially local matches. Have seen Staffs Police down at WBA before now. Wouldn't suprise me if the West Mids mob you refer to are up there at our place on Saturday as its Birmingham City in town 🙄

All football fans are second class citizens in the eyes of the police, fair game to them. For balance, quite a few 'football fans' are second-class citizens. Absolute pond life. Conversely, there are quite a few scum bag coppers. No need to generalise on both accounts though

When I was touring around the Uk in early 90s I was getting to as many matches as I could. I went to see Derby v Man utd and was trying to get in. There was a police line preventing fans walking around the ground so I walked up to them and was chatting to an older officer standing next to a female officer and we were having a calm conversation as I plead my case to be allowed to go past. I was chatting normally and all seemed ok when an arm came from behind the older guy and pushed me in the chest. No need for it, we were both chatting, no threat or anything. It was extremely provocative and uncalled for by the police behind the older guy I was talking to. I eventually got past but thought it could have escalated quickly if someone with a shorter fuse than me had been in the same situation. Absolutely no need for it.

Stoke v WBA last year had West Mids riot squads up outside the ground.. & Staffs did same at the Hawthorns aswell. Must be some West Midlands/Staffs mutual aid agreement. So basically if there's bother outside the ground it could be a copper from Wolverhampton or Birmingham clouting ya!

Ha yeah guessing it's been a while since we had the horses at a Stoke match. I know West Mids Police hired them in from Lancashire & Thames Valley when they had that bother at Villa in the Europa Conference match just prior to Christmas. Yeah worth everyone keeping an eye out coz West Mids Knuckle Draggers wouldnt hesitate to be a bit bolshy on an away day so to speak, different area and all that!

The only reason Staffs have to draft in horses is because they disbanded the mounted police for Staffordshire when they made cutbacks. No doubt they used the money saved wisely …..probably not ..

I've always thought treating fans like shite is counter productive as surely it makes their jobs harder. Have to say that the majority of police are not heavy handed though but football fans do seem to get treated differently than people in any other walk of life.

Used to go to a lot of hockey games here in the US. Cops and fans were the same way there - it really DOES only take one knob-head either way to induce a riot. Police & thieves in the street, fighting the nation with their guns & ammunition.
