That was a truly horrible home strip wasn't it. Whatever made the club think it was a good idea ?

That was a truly horrible home strip wasn't it. Whatever made the club think it was a good idea ? There was a pr company called TACTICS who tried to give the club a makeover. There was also an horrendous cheesy banner draped across the top of the Stoke End Stand that said 'Proud to be a Potter'.

Can you remember when there was that rumour that the club was thinking of changing to green and white shirts ? Not sure exactly when it was, it may have been the late 60's or very early 70's (or maybe my memory is just playing tricks).

I believe that was the brainchild of Derek Hodgson, assistant manager in the late 1960s, although really a PR type. The green kit was his idea as well as changing the clubs name to ‘Knype’. His ideas are the kind of thing Jimmy Hill was pioneering at Coventry, but not as good. He was in fact an accomplished sports author and journalist and that’s were he returned to circa 1969.

Yes you're right. I'd forgotten about the name change though.

That was a truly horrible home strip wasn't it. Whatever made the club think it was a good idea ? The pinstripes were the idea of a new marketing company after the popularity of Le Coq Sportif shirts in Europe and to a small extent, the UK , not the club. Sunderland had one and a few others. I liked it at the time but was about 7, don't think it looks too bad. Southampton have experimented with the stripes over the years, some good some awful. I guess is only so much you can do

Does anyone have any way of getting the stoke 5 West Ham 2 match highlights from the early 80’s Brilliant game on a muddy pitch! Don't think was televised. Shame, was a brilliant goal by Sammy Mac disallowed as someone else flagged offside . That was the game where about 20 West Ham fans came into the Boothen Stand, not End as claimed in one of their books then asked for a police escort to the station outside. The police said along the lines of...you're a bunch of brave lads ..it's that way. Can remember them stood by the graveyard walking back to the car with my Dad looking a bit concerned

Does anyone have any way of getting the stoke 5 West Ham 2 match highlights from the early 80’s Brilliant game on a muddy pitch! I remember Pete Hampton doing a burst and time almost stood still as he went to cross it and he realised he just had the keeper to beat ....he just put his foot through it at the near post and scored. It was Chamberlain not Sammy Mac, sorry who had the great solo goal ruled out, he basically took on the entire West Ham team before scoring but the lino flagged Sammy off on the far side for some reason to some serious abuse. Sammy Mac had a goal disallowed as well. One of my first games. One of the worst dives have ever seen at that game, possibly the worst of course players never dived in those days... Paul Goddard stuck a ball past Peter Fox then launched himself, arched back, head tilted ,the works. Only time have ever seen a lino actually laugh at a player diving and signalled a dive to the ref . The West Ham fans of course were claiming a pen
