The "Bovril" served with pepper I remember, and so hot it could easily have cleared the pitch for the 78 Cup game against Oldham.
Players sat in the "Royal Box" towards the left of the Boothen (usually inured or not picked on the day) ,with an elevated view which ever game was on (George Berry springs to mind acknowledging the chant of "Woooooo Georgie Berry" by the masses
The worse tannoy system in the world : Either ear splitting feedback or duff sound in general, yet always played the greatest hits all the time from 10 years previous (a sort of pre curser to Heart FM)
When the large gate opened always seeing the congregated masses ready for the sprint back to town for the PMT home, yet not wanting to miss that last gasp Graham Shaw/Carl Saunders/Simon Stained chance (delete where applicable)
The gate to the Paddock & the warm welcome for any visiting fool who tried it on in The Boothen, but didnt have any idea of what awaited them with the walk to the Police Box
Close my eyes & I am back there now, and God how lucky I am to have been there

The fuck is a 'water burger'? My overriding memories of the old Boothen End was that of the stench of hot piss and Pedigree farts. (and 'Door X') Before all this new fangled ..cooking 100% beef burgers on a grill lark and served with fresh tomato , a choice of relish etc .. burgers and the onions, especially at the football or outside grounds , clubs at closing etc , were cooked in a luke warm watery mess They were probably ham back then , though the actual % of meat was questionable , the low meat content realistically being the only thing that stopped thousands coming down with something worse than cholera , cooked ( warmed ) , boiled in a watery mess , ( the temperature never got to boiling point or anywhere near it ) as were the onions and served in a stale bun , by a bloke in a dirty stained white butchers coat that hadn’t been washed since the first day it was worn , that was used alternatively as a handkerchief ( the sleeve ) and towel ( sides ) for when the said burger seller washed his hands in the fore mentioned watery mess after having a slash .. hygiene 0 .. and footie fans bought them in their thousands the forerunner of the Kebab remember em well also used to crog in different venues as the vendors "assistant" ...... Hendesford raceway ... crewe speedway.... loomer road etc

We're the middle We're the middle We're the middle of the Boothen End We all live in the back of Boothen End, Back of Boothen end .......... I am pretty sure I was there, in the Boothen, when that was first sung. It was at the height of Beatlemania and I had not missed a match for a long time when it started and immediately caught on. I recall as it spread eventually the entire end joined in and at the end the whole ground applauded. A very special memory. At the same time we had the well remembered Zigger Zagger 😀

It was often more static than speech:

I know the capacity when it closed was 9500 but does anyone know the capacity in.the 50s and 60s. They would just let people in until they closed the gates when they thought the ground was full so it's hard to know. We played Man U IN 1972 In a QF FA cup game and there was 49,192. Perhaps 15,000, it was jam packed and we won 2-1 Wasn’t this when Smithy declared himself fit for the replay at the Vic after a fairly serious back injury in the first game at Old Trafford. I’ve got the programme in the loft somewhere.

Some great memories on here. Definitely miss those days - through the turnstiles, go right and wander to the end, up the stairs, turn right again and go to the end of the stand, down a few steps and take my place in the corner with the wall behind me and the crush barrier a few steps in front. Give a nod to all the regulars and tut to myself if we're playing 'a glamour side' and there are loads of 'johnny-come-lately' new faces there. To be honest I still do the latter at the bet365.
About 2 minutes before the end of the game you'd wander back to the top of the steps and join the throng who are craning their necks to see the last pieces of action. On the 1st peep of the ref's final whistle you'd be swept down the steps to the exit with all the others and then I'd dodge the puddles wandering back to the car park at the ground. I'm sure the chap who used to take the money at the gate of the car park - that little bridge that went up over the bridge behind the houses and onto the car park/training ground - still ushers in the traffic at the entrance to the Bet365. Those were happy days when we could get up from Birmingham and enter the car park at 2.50pm and be in the ground for 2.55pm, and similarly get away in good time.
When The Vic was being taken apart I had a great couple of hours wandering around the place, the builders didn't care. Photos in the dressing room (yes in the bath!), board room and of course standing in my old spot. I even found the tube part of one of the crush barriers, about a meter long. A part of the Boothen which still sits in the garage, I must really do something more with it but suspect the wife may have a view on that!
