he’s not saying shut it , just leave it to the away fans . Splitting the home support to two opposite stands as affected the atmosphere, put them all together and it’s bound to be better what about people who don't want to sit in the boothen end, they have chosen to sit in the south stand, how many will actually move or would we just lose more fans on a match day? dare I say it the facilities in the south stand are much better than the boothen too as its newer this really is a competitor for most stupid discussion of the year and its only the 7th of Jan! It’s not stupid though. The atmosphere is generally crap. Having two sets of fans trying to start songs just doesn’t work. If you sit in between the two you have no idea of who to actually join with and then that kills any effort to get a song sorted. As I’ve said, people who sit in the south stand don’t particularly want to hear this but it’s the truth. Having home fans in the south stand currently kills the atmosphere.

It’s the same thing in reverse though. Either or would work.

block 31 here. we had a split of family standers and main standers for the cup match and it was definitely too loud for the prawn sandwich brigade..... and I think you'll find there were more GWARN STOKE started in our stand thank you
also like the idea of moving away fans to the Boothen
Block 19 anyone?

Moved up to block 36 south east corner after covid boothen was/is dead, love it facilities better more concourse room even seems a better view i ain't moving so I'm afraid we'll just have to keep singing out of sync until we storm to the premier league again and all the part timers come back.

Really …in recent years when they close the West upper for cup games I always move to block 31 ..for the peace and quiet I might add , certainly not your concourse , and the sun can be a pain too 🙂 A lot of the long time west upper are old Boothen end or Boothen paddock of old ..just like as in the early years where many of the East stand ..and although I know many did migrate Boothen to Boothen if anything its the centre blocks of the Boothen that never quite swapped like for like

Simple answer to improve the atmosphere. Unreserved seating. People can sit in groups then. "Vis Unita Fortior"

Bayerns completely right. The split doesn’t help atmosphere. The south stand with the cringey “Stoke go down … pissed in ale song” sums it up in there.

Boothen end safe standing at the back, seating at the front.
That'll definitely help.
I never understand sitting next to the away fans as the stewards are generally tossers who are more confrontational than the away fans.
Last time i went to the South stand was to see my niece who worked in the food kiosk. Whilst there i thought i wonder what the view is like from there and as i walked to the seating area i got accosted by 3 burly stewards who asked me for my ticket. I told em i wanted to see what the view from this end was like as i had popped over to see my niece and it almost became confrontational. No need for it the fucking toss bags.

As i have said before if safe standing gets put in at the 365 and i think it will then they will make the whole south stand and corner safe standing, it makes sense as you have to give away fans the same option and i think it will be standing at the back and seating in front as it's the most workable option else people sitting behind would not be able to see unless major work was done to elevate the seats behind then that turns into a major job.

Thing theres load of factors to the poor home atmosphere- Weve been shite for so long, nothing to cheer about
The atmosphere used to be generated out of the boothen, now its spilt across the ground. Whilst that vis unita 1863 was a nice idea they chose the wrong stand imo.
People not willing to learn any new chants, or not being able to understand songs with more than 3 words
Ways to get it back- Be good
Introduce safe standing in the boothen, that'll attract people who want to generate an atmosphere.
Sing your heart out for the lads

Sing your heart out for the lads I agree with all of that but I would add 'nothing to play for' to the top of the list. Somehow we need get in contention for something, play-offs at least. Instead every January we are lower mid-table and out of both cup competitions. Folks are coming along to matches thinking to themselves 'what's the bloody point of it all?'!

Club were close to closing the south stand a few years back due to the trouble. We are a bit fragmented at the moment though. Do you mean closing the South Stand to Stoke supporters? Surely not closing it full stop. What 'trouble' was there? Yes, the club were nearly forced to move home supporters at one point due to behavioural problems. It was after a certain game versus West Brom. Not much we can do about improving the home atmosphere other than getting excitement back into the crowd. A more excited/pumped up crowd = better atmosphere. I have a cracking vantage spot where I stand in the Southstand where I can see young lads and also young ladies not in the slightest interested in vocally supporting the team. They would rather stand chatting to mates, sending snapchats of their foreheads (don't get this?) or trying to impress each other by chanting 'she's got chlamydia' I guess the football has been turgid for so long that fans have now just got used to chatting / having a laugh with friends and not being that interested in the game. There's not a rule book to state you must support your team by 'singing / shouting' but i'm just glad that they have paid their money into the club and they can do what they like with the time they spend in the ground. I agree that amalgamating the supporters would 100% increase the atmosphere generated but for me, I have one of the best seats/standing positions in the house and would not be excited about giving it up for a seat in the boothen end. I'm sure others in the southstand would also share the same views.

After 20 plus years in the Boothen, we moved to the Southstand 4 years ago and am more than happy with the decision. It is always difficult to judge how loud an area is when you are in the middle of it but generally speaking the South Stand "experience" feels more like an away game to me in terms of atmosphere and is usually quite loud. However, when I speak to mates in other parts of the ground, they say that they can rarely hear the SS. I went into the Boothen for Saturday's match and am a bit baffled by people saying it was a great atmosphere. Bar a couple of "oh when the Reds" and "Delilah", it felt exactly how I remembered it just before we moved - pretty quiet. I certainly prefer the South Stand at the moment. We got chatting to a couple of Brighton fans in the Glebe after the game and they thought our fans were quiet. More than one group trying to generate an atmosphere is always going to dilute it. However, as plenty of other people have said, the key to a good atmosphere is actually having a good team! Give us something to shout about and the stadium will respond.

It's like that at every game, I call it the stoke southstand experience. One trick to do is to hold your season card upside down so the stewards have to rotate their heads like an owl, it's great!! 🦉🦉🦉 The benefit of our seats are that we have stewards reserving our seats for us at every game and get shitty when we kick them out of our seats. They then stand in front of us for 80 minutes before retreating back to the concourse while being serenaded to a delightful 'time to go' chant. Having watched the back of a stewards head for 80 minutes it is now time for the opposition to score a goal with their only shot on target. Welcome to the experience of watching stoke 😂
