9.1 to us. The days of Viollet, Mcilroy, Ritchie and Dobing, of Calvin Palmer,(who made Pearson look like a wimp), of Kinnell and Tony Allen. Weirdly the best goal was probably scored by Ipswich's Broadfoot, who ran at least half of the field to open the score (I think) I wish we still had a side like that-but then I wish I could go back 60 years generally!

I'd love it if we had a player called Kinnell now!

I was there watching in the Stoke end. If my memory serves me we went 1-0, they equalised, and then we ran riot.

I'm assuming 5? Skeels was always 6 and Palmer 4. Keith Bebbington was playing. Burrows must have been injured. Bebbington was a pretty good deputy.

I don't think we signed Burrows until 1965. Quite interestingly, all the forward line scored (old fashioned 7, 8, 9, 10, & 11). Keth Bebbington (11) had not scored and everyone was trying to set him up to score, which he eventually did. Had this not happened we could have scored more. A few weeks later (I think) Fulham scored 10 against Ipswich.

Had it in mind that we may have played Ipswich before on New Years Day in the late 80’s. So we did… Just the 36 years ago! Two home defeats on the bounce. (Season before the 3-1 win v Man City and their inflatables on Boxing Day). 28 December 1987 Manchester City H 1–3 18,020 Berry 82' (pen) 1 January 1988 Ipswich Town. H 1–2 9,976 Morgan 8' en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1987–88_Stoke_City_F.C._season

my brother was born on this day and one of the things i got him for his 50th was this match program framed, i think it was grand national day as well. we both have had a lifetime of STOKE CITY and would not swap it for anything and both season ticket holders.

You’d never get two matches in two days now. Wonder if that was the last time Stoke had that schedule? Bradford finished 4th that season! That game was the last one before the FA Cup home game v Liverpool, when 31,979 turned up. Bit different to the gate v Ipswich!

I was on the Stoke end that day, didn't all the front 5 score that day?
Sounds odd today,a front 5, a Centre Forward,2 Inside forwards & 2 wingers.
