I never understand why managers play 4-3-3 when they don’t have a decent striker. Essential to the system is a really good central striker. We've persisted with it since relegation and struggled massively. Neither Mmaee or Wesley are anywhere near in my opinion and a striker who can do the job is an essential first signing. Both Wesley and Mmaee would probably benefit playing as a two up top but it seems old fashioned to do so nowadays.

The only formation I could see us playing with Wesley and Mmaee on at the same time would be 532. As long as Bae is in a free role in a 433 and can get close to the central striker, it can work. It never could under AN because he didn’t allow it.

I think Mmaee could absolutly work in a 433 or 4231 formation. As a central striker I think he will be very good and I dont think he needs a big man alongside him
His link up play at Blues, West Brom and even Millwall was excellent, he holds the ball up well, doesn't give it away and brings others into the game just like he did for Gooch's goal. When his goals come and I have no doubt they will, then we will have a very good player on our hands

I do think Mmaee can play as a sole striker and the goals will come with him. He was used terrible under AN as a target man which he clearly isn't. He's a very unselfish player and would like to see him have a go on goal more.

My uneducated view is that decent Central strikers are nearly as rare as rocking horse shyte because it is in my opinion by far the hardest position in football. Hence why decent one's are always valued in the 10s of millions. If Mmaee turns into one we'll make a killing when inevitably sold.

He useless at leading the line , movement in the channels is appalling, he’s pretty slow and shit in the air. For me only suited to playing in a two up front.

4-3-3 is the formation least reliant on the central striker. The wide forwards are usually the bigger goal threat.

Mmaee deputised by Tezgel (who in pre-season seemed to have excellent link up play) and maybe Lowe would be my preference providing all can stay fit as I think we have other areas that are more in need of investment. Probably fanciful and both will get a loan instead but I’d love them to make a genuine impact in the 2nd half of the season before we can reassess in the summer.

I hate to be critical of our own players but I am not seeing anything in Mmaee that suggests he can make it at this level. He seems to have a questionable attitude and loses the majority of his jewels. He hasn’t exactly shown the natural ability to score (I think both Campbell and Vidigal are more natural goal scorers). His hold up play is also pretty poor in the majority of games I have seen. Birmingham was probably his best game so maybe there’s hope yet but I think a striker is a major priority for January.

It wasnt just the one flick though, he played Vidigal in who blazed over too, which Vidigal should have buried by the way, so that would have been 2 assists I cant agree he is useless at leading the, he drops into pockets and looks to get the ball into wider positions, i agree he isnt quick and not brilliant but certainly not shit in the air as you say

Played his best game since signing against Birmingham because we have a manager who doesn't shit himself and you "don't see anything in his game"? His attitude is fine, he's moved to another country less than a year ago in a total different environment same as Vidigal and yet we have some absolute clueless stoke fans questioning both of them. His movement is very good and he's also a very good finisher, surely your not THAT stupid to not be able see that?

Got to say I’m not seeing it either. Looks like a poor man’s Joselu, just not combative enough for my liking. Too much time on his arse crying and protesting about the nature of the English game. Even Joselu did something good occasionally he just didn’t have the gonads for the English game.

Thanks for the insults. 2 goals in 15 isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement for his “very good finishing”. For me, he doesn’t have the skills to be successful at Championship level but I really hope he proves me wrong!

Think he looked good at Brum because people got near him. To me he seems to have good control & short passing plus the vision to distribute through a defence. He also tends to hit shots like he means it, unlike Wes. He's not looked good in the air but you can play around that in a lot of games, the big question for me is whether he'll be able to ride out the physical side.

4-3-3 is the formation least reliant on the central striker. The wide forwards are usually the bigger goal threat. In the Premiership may be not in the championship. Pointless having a non potent front man. We’ve been playing with non scoring wide forwards as well. For me having an above average central forward opens things up for wide forwards and attacking mods

For me having an above average central forward opens things up for wide forwards and attacking mods I think we could use an upgrade in the central striker role. Someone more mobile than Wesley and stronger than Mmaee. However, the scoring burden won’t need to fall on the central player like it does in other formations.

There's every chance Mmaee will shine with players getting closer to him. He's lacked support pre Ste so for me his Stoke career starts now. All our players should get a fresh start under the new manager, we are obviously setting up differently so these new tactics will suit some players a lot more, hopefully more of the players than not.

If we get players closer to Mmaee, I don't think we need another striker in January.
Jury's out a bit until we've seen a few more games, though.

I’m intrigued to see how Wesley will do with a bit more support as well. Maybe the strikers we have are fine, especially when Campbell is back. Wouldn’t mind Thomas-Assante up front though if a deal could be made, although it might be hard to convince him with WBA sitting in 5th place.

It would certainly stop him scoring against us, he's worth buying just for that. I've not seen enough from Wesley, what should be his strengths he doesn't seem very good at. Maybe he could show more but he's one of the few players I can't see getting better. I hope I'm wrong obviously, time will tell.
