I’ve been a bit surprised (naive?) at the level of anti-Scouse tone in many of the different Schuey threads. Hardly a first class welcome to a brand new club.
Anyway, why do some of our fanbase have these prejudices towards Liverpudlians? Seems like a city and population that we’d have far more in common with than not
Obvious plea to cut it out and for the Oatcake to police it better. For those that continue, your shit and unfunny old man jokes about theft, car radios etc. need to get in the bin.

it's a city and population we have far more similarities with than differences to, even down to our accents being mistaken for each other to the untrained ear. never understood the piss taking from one extremely working class city to another.

Like any place on earth there are good and bad people.
Some of the comments around the previous Hillsborough threads have been disgusting……..

Makes us look small time and like we’re stuck in the dark ages. Oh and by the way, for the benefit of the prejudiced Neanderthals, gross value added to national economy has Liverpool ranked 11th and S-O-T 30th. And then unemployment in Liverpool is currently at 4.6% and in S-O-T at 5.4%.

A bit of stereotype-based banter is one thing but some of the comments I’ve seen are absolutely pathetic in their prejudice and abusiveness, and not a million miles away from something like racism really. People need to grow up

Give me a no-nonsense scouser over a dour Scotsman any day. The ‘dour Scot’ bit isn’t true in my experience. I’m in Wishaw now with wife and in laws. Been out and about today and seen miore smiles on people than in Exeter. Shop staff all lovely, as were the shoppers tbh. Not rose tinted at all - it’s just what I saw and heard today which is backed by coming here regularly with my Caledonian wife for years. Never felt anything other than welcome anywhere with not one hint of ‘ anti English’. Their football is still shite though.

I was born in Liverpool, family settled in Burton on Trent when I was 4, via mid-Wales,(don't ask). We always used to go to Liverpool to visit my dad's parents. My dad pestered me over the coming few years about which team I was going to follow, him born in the city, was a Liverpool fan. I remember, from the back seat of the car with my 2 brothers, passing through Stoke on the way north-westward. Being halfway between Liverpool and Burton, I told my dad that Stoke City would be my team. He wasn't chuffed. This was '72. Stoke had just won the League cup.
I was born of a Liverpool fan, to be a glory-hunter with Stoke City. That worked well.

An identifiable ascent , changed over my lifetime , more exaggerated by & for TV and post Brookside days in particular .. The City and people tends to stand up for itself , in some peoples eyes makes us targets & moaners , tho having moaned we tend to get off our arses to fight our or other peoples corner ..the 10 things about SOT is interesting knew all of them previously ..take a look at Liverpool's version some time
But TBH I wouldnt worry to much about the anti Scouse stuff ..it comes with the territory , most of its pantomime stuff and all of it heard numerous times before.. it’s water off a ducks back , the genuinely venomous stuff , noted , but treated with the contempt it deserves .. better to be talked about, even badly , than not even register on peoples scale of awareness
The vast , and I do mean vast number of Potteries folk and their families I’ve been fortunate to meet over 50 years have been nothing but welcoming , friendly and helpful .and I include Vale and non footie fans in that … judge the individual not where he comes from or the hole in the ground or mansion he lives in ..scousers are no different ..there’s some fantastically friendly people up here ..and some seriously evil dangerous ones too
Thats not to say that there haven’t been moments in those 50 years when ive been made unwelcome down Stoke ..my first visit on my Todd at 14 I was threatened outside the station and told don’t come back.. being ( seriously ) threatened or worse on the Boothen simply for being a scouser was a bit of an annual event for a period .. but if you make yourself a target you have to accept you’ll be shot at occasionally .. and occasionally some of those shots will land home ..it can hurt , the words more than sticks and stones , but you dust yourself down ..just being a scouser or anyone else doesn’t get you a pass on its own ..as an outsider you have to work harder than your hosts to build bridges and be accepted.. not just expect or demand it as a right ..you have to earn it ..it’ll be no different for the new manager
since the Mills days , I’ve grown older and wiser and tend to be more supportive than most of our managers ..with a fellow Scouser at the helm , my outlook will be interesting ..will I demand more of him and feel a greater personal pain or affront if he fails , it’ll be interesting when my mate first hurls abuse … as he will , and has done with every manager since the days of Lou ..I’ve not known him to like any of them 🙂 .. it’ll certainly be an interesting moment between us when he tags the term ‘Scouse’ to his 2 minute rants full of Cs Fs and Scouse at the game ..could be a lot of tongue biting by me ahead
coming I believe from Kirkby ( there’s good and bad bits of that ) SS wont be naive , few managers coaches are , abuse sadly comes with the job and being a scouser doesn’t help , but he like me will have heard all the Scouse stuff thousands of times before ( some of it in jest , some not ) ..he’ll need and have thick skin ..he’ll be under no illusions of the task in hand ..he witnessed first hand at Plymouth how our fans can be very supportive , but have a venomous streak ..tho I didn’t agree with it , he’ll welcome that because it shows there’s still fight , feeling and passion in the clubs support , seeing both ends of the spectrum of our support that day and still coming says a lot about the man
person I feel most for is fishlovesoatcakes - I hope not , but things might turn a little sour for him at the games or on here ..and he might end up viewing some of fellow supporters differently , counting to ten before jumping in defending his man at the game or on here , writing a reply but deleting it before pressing ‘send’ is good therapy
Best of luck everybody ..especially fish ..strap yourself in , it could be a bumpy ride ..but to the top we go

I thought this was interesting. Everton will continue to advertise charity foodbanks on the Goodison Park scoreboard as a direct response to opposition fans' 'poverty chanting', after it was praised on social media this weekend. Following similar chanting during the previous matches against Manchester United and Newcastle at Goodison Park, Everton had engaged with the fans' advisory board and fans' forum to discuss what could be done. In a planned move, it was decided the message of 'fans supporting foodbanks' would be displayed on the big screen inside the stadium whenever the chants - such as "Feed the Scousers" and "sign on" - were heard in Sunday's Premier League match against Chelsea. They are songs specifically aimed at Everton and Liverpool fans by rival supporters mocking Merseysiders around the theme of unemployment. In total, the message flashed up three times during Everton's 2-0 win over Chelsea - the first coming after just 34 seconds - and the club said this will continue throughout the season. Fans Supporting Foodbanks is a joint initiative by Everton fan group Blue Union and Liverpool's Spirit of Shankly in the city and Everton said on social media it was "proud" of the "vital www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67682536

Its a wonderful series and if you aint seen it then you're in for a treat.
