There are 650 MPs They don't seem to be doing a very good job. If you could choose anyone ( except Frasier) to run the country ( without elections), who would you pick? My immediate thoughts are; Martin Lewis ( the money saving expert), Richard Attenborough ( or if not available, David Attenborough), Denise Coates, Dyson....
They don't have to be famous.

Stephen Fry
Highly intelligent although we're still likely to get continually fucked up the arse but at least he's suitably experienced and would likely have a laugh and a cuddle afterwards.

He's an absolute tool, just as fucked up and full of shit as the worst as any MP (although not as stupid as Gullis) Imho a good number of MPs are actually decent hard working people who are doing what they can to improve things However it's very rare that those types get to become ministers The significant number of MPs who are a heady combination of gutless, stupid, arrogant, corrupt, lazy, self serving and so on are depressing The number one problem is the Public School system produces far more of the latter than the former and those are the types we vote for

I'd agree many MPs do try their best , totally constrained by the Party system. Have you anyone in mind who might be good at running the country?

Just throwing his hat in , out of the blue, I will have to reconsider.....Having said that over the years most of UK manufacturing has gone abroad.....perhaps Dyson stands out because he has been successful, 5.9 bn , 5th richest man, but I'm not particularly fighting his corner. He has shown good qualities of perseverance and is successful..... Who do you put forward?

I wouldn’t hire a wealthy businessman/businesswoman to be honest, certainly not someone from a mega company anyways. Their entire careers are built screwing over the little guy.
What would change?

I think someone entrepreneurial could definitely contribute as part of a team. I'd hope we'd also have other suggestions who would look after the little guys and gals.It always seems to create a problem when someone becomes successful....a debate between screwing over and creating jobs ( I'm not necessarily talking about Dyson). Have you anyone in mind Civil?

He has shown good qualities of perseverance and is successful..... Who do you put forward? Martin Lewis is a good suggestion. I’d stay clear of most well known people or celebrities. Running a country should be about competent public administration. Not fame and charisma. To be honest, I’d appoint my wife and get her involved. She’s a government lawyer and she and her civil servant colleagues know the actual nuts and bolts of running a country that most don’t. I’d also want ministers with actual experience in their field. A nurse/doctor to be health minister. A teacher as education minister. A lawyer as AG and justice minister. Perhaps David Attenborough as environment minister (if he were younger!). Torsten Bell as Chancellor (the CEO of the Resolution Foundation). I very much like the idea of MPs having lived in their constituency so they know local issues. Diverse and wide ranging individuals. Easy to say, hard to achieve.

Feargal Sharkey would do an excellent job in the environment sector.
Jamie Oliver/Prue Leith have both spoken passionately about food standards and not just from a Chefs perspective.
And for no other reason than I just think he's a great guy, I'd get Ben Fogle involved somewhere.

I'd worry about the impartiality of the BBC under your premiership Oggy. You'd need a tight rein on Huddy, he'd need focus otherwise he'd be your loose canon. He's Prescott-lite. He'd be chinning people before you knew it.

Have you anyone in mind Civil? I think that these mega businesses destroy as many jobs as they can as well. They buy out up and coming companies, merge their idea and sack as many staff as they can. I’m not a big fan of huge businesses. I think that they destroy the “middle class” and reduce social mobility. I care more about distribution of GDP and seeing more people earn more money (e.g., small businesses) than Amazon (for example). I also think that those small businesses create a bit of community that is gone when your local shop is an all in one Tesco. As for who to be PM, I would take someone in the realms of Dan Carden, who at least has a similar outlook as myself on some issues. He had the courage and morals to stand up for what he believed in, defying Starmer and going to the backbench over Gaza. Whether I do or don’t believe in the outcome of that vote, I respect the man for sticking to his principles, even if it hurt his own rise in the Labour Party.
