I’d hate him to be manager - purely for the fact that if it went wrong, I’d hate for things to be sour. He is a club legend - prefer it to stay that way. Did Denis Smith say he would never manage Stoke for the same reasons. Now he just bores the arse off us instead on the radio 🤣🤣🤣

Did Denis Smith say he would never manage Stoke for the same reasons. Could have possibly done - I’ve not heard it myself but it makes sense. We've asked him three times but each time he said no, for this reason. The final time he was very tempted but didnt want to tarnish his reputation. His wife said, how would you feel if the Boothen started chanting "Smith out". He couldnt cope with the thought and turned us down. This from recent podcast, Cold Wet Tuesday I think 2022

Why how many games did he play ? You got something against Shawcross matey because your posts on this thread are not very complimentary. Completely the opposite. Love him. I was alluding to the possibility that he wasn't too enamoured by some of the players not giving their all to help us avoid relegation from the Premier League.

He's number 4 behind Gallagher, Morris and Gould. How the fuck is Gould in front of him Because he's the current goalkeeping/first team coach and was the 4th under Neil, canning and Gallagher.

Where do people get these ideas he’s not even No2 to Gallagher that’s Alex Morris. He's number 4 behind Gallagher, Morris and Gould. Morris the bottle merchant who couldn't buy a win at a league 2 club.

Surely any new manager is likely to bring his own number 2 in?

Surely any new manager is likely to bring his own number 2 in? Yes. But there's a tendency among clubs in general, not all clubs, but quite a few, that the third man is someone who's associated with the club. That kept Delap in the job for some years until AN wanted shot of all that had history with the club before his arrival. Manure currently have Maclaren back and they've had others. Swansea kept Curtis for years, several times as caretaker; no matter who was sacked, and quite a few were, but Curtis stayed until he retired. So among the current staff, apart from the recently reinstated youth manager, Gareth Owen, Shawcross is the only one who knows the club.

Why shouldn't the next manager be Shawcross? He loves the club, played nearly all of his career at Stoke and seems a no nonsense type of guy. We don't want anyone who just treats it as another job I hope he applies Please god no, what is it with everyone who thinks that former players will make good managers 😳 in truth he was never all that vocal when he was playing and i never saw him as an outstanding leader on the pitch, a good player yes, manager….definitely not!!

We don't want anyone who just treats it as another job I hope he applies It’s an entirely different skill set so yes he should apply for the experience of the interview but probably give it another 5 years of working his way up the ladder…..and that’s if he’s even interested in it! Not everyone’s interested in management - Shawcross imo would be a great defensive coach if he brings his experience together with additional learning. Hoping for a better night tonight anyway than when we were in a similar position aka www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-west-brom-delap-interview-3501909

I'd rather give it Shawcross than any of the dour British managers that always seem to be linked to these jobs, a la Steve Bruce/Neil Warnock/Nigel Pearson et al that may be on the dreaded shortlist. Can we be any worse than we were under Neil/Jones......you have to start somewhere. And all this about him not being vocal on the pitch, WTF does that have to do with anything - Graham Potter was a church mouse in comparison to other players......far better manager than most of his compatriots from that side..................

Surely any new manager is likely to bring his own number 2 in? As long as that’s all they allow him that’s fine anybody who wants to bring a tribe of hangers on just fuck them off. They must be wank if they need to bring people with them to blow smoke up their arse.

Wish he was. No him and Gallagher in the dugout... Where do people get these ideas he’s not even No2 to Gallagher that’s Alex Morris. At what point did i say he was no 2 or 1 even 4 . Hes in the dugout for the first time. Good luck to him it will be a matter of pride for him....
