Serious question, what has Potter done better than Dean Smith in his career? Dean Smiths encountered both a victory & defeat in successive seasons in a play off final at Wembley, I'm sure that will have gained him massive experience especially as he followed the defeat up with a victory the following year. Not sure Potter has ever managed such a high profile game as a play off final.. Twice over?!

Managers are like celebrities now and I wonder if his agent fed them a non-story to boost his profile?

Serious question, what has Potter done better than Dean Smith in his career? Taking a semi pro team the size of Newcastle Town to Europe and then beating Arsenal, Galatasaray and Hertha Berlín on said journey?

This has all the makings of everyone knowing our top 2 targets and the first choice getting cold feet then, the second choice taking the hump so we end up with someone like Lambert Windmill Arms along with a random mate again

"proven in the championship" honestly gives me chills. Means they've usually failed. Corberan, Carrick, McKenna, Kompany etc etc etc none of those were Neither was Nathan Jones

Give me fucking strength. Alex Neil was meant to be "proven championship manager with a promotion on his CV" look how that fucking turned out

Can’t see this one happening.
He’s too similar to AN.

“Approached” does not mean “offered”.
Surely any board in this position sounds out a number of available managers to see whether they’re interested before bringing a selection in for interview.

We will have approached a fair few to see if they are interested.
It’s standard practice to assess the sorts of people you can attract.

Norwich fans said he was the worst manager they have ever had, and villa under him would still have been in the championship if it wasnt for grealish, he would be the worst possible appointment.

Difficult to see which way this will go.Have gone for experienced championship in Neil and rowett and its failed, young dynamic blood in mad nath, failed. Steady the ship Lambert failed, steady the ship mon got a tune for a while but then just went stale.
And the winner is ......

Am I right in thinking he was part of Brentford’s success before frank took the reigns? I know he wasn’t the reason for success but remember them being a very good footballing side. Saying that wouldn’t want him anywhere near our club. Not only were they very good, they recruited very well with players like Watkins, Toney, Mbeuno and Janssen and sold off the duds to teams who have the wool pulled over their eyes like Ryan Woods or Tariq Fosu (ok Fosu wasnt Smith) I think every manager is a bit of a gamble, He is no more of a gamble then a Scott Parker, John Eustace or Paul Heckingbottom in my opinion Just not very exciting but Id have Smith over Neil every day He also was a minor player in their data driven recruitment model.

Yep, if you read between the lines his achievement getting Villa promoted relied heavily on Grealish. Their form dipped alarmingly when he was injured mid-season. Also, that promotion was achieved almost entirely on the first team he inherited from Bruce. Now yes, he did bring in Watkins, Martinez, Konsa (and Wesley!!) the following season, but it doesn't look like he got the best out of them like Emery has. Could Smith be tempted into a DoF role...?

I have no problem with Dean Smith.
He built a really entertaining Brentford team on a small budget and managed to get Aston Villa promoted despite the circumstances.
Leicester was a difficult job to walk into, so no skin off his nose there. However, he was pretty uninspiring with Norwich.
I think the positives outweigh the negatives in his career so far.

His career record is just beige. Achieved nowt at Brentford, won promotion off the back of Grealish at Villa and did nothing at Leicester or Norwich.
I just hope it's press nonsense that isn't true. He'd be such a let down of an appointment it's untrue.

What world beating manager do Stoke fans realistically think are going to rock up at ST4 anytime soon?! Reality check for those not happy with us being linked to a Dean Smith calibre of manager right now, perhaps the likes of Dean Smith are looking at Stoke right now saying nah thanks aswell! We naturally have a high opinion of our club, that's what being a fan of the club does to you. But perhaps Stoke & A Dean Smith are about right for each other right now, just as TP was when Cotterill walked out on us?!
