There was a rumour Palace wanted him at the end of 16/17. If it's true and he'd left at that point he'd be viewed very differently indeed. Was Everton wasn’t it? And the board blocked it/demanded too much for him. Korean was managing Everton at that stage

“A handful of games” over three seasons of ninth places I was referring to the ‘best football ever’ quote…what we saw against Man C & Man I when we not only beat them, we played them off the park and it was incredibly special. My point is, that under Waddo we did that consistently not just a few standout matches. You obviously don't remember the Waddington Wall

Well hes right. I dont like him. I'm probably in a minority here but from day one i didn't want him. Yes i witnessed some great football and great away days, but i never sang or chanted his name. When we lost the old spine of the team i knew he was done cos he just didnt have a clue how to fix it. Hes as popular to me as rowett was after the shrewsbury cup debacle. Yes you witnessed some great football but ... WOW that's the best football you've seen since the seventies . He ballsed it up but how anyone can slag him off amazes me . Where in that message did i slag him off.? Not singing his name is hardly berating the guy, if anything its more a case of enjoying the game whilst ignoring who was managing the team.

I find it quite sad and disappointing to be honest that he thinks we as a fanbase don't like him. The football under him was the best I've ever seen and probably will ever see Stoke play. We genuinely looked like we could break into that top six at times. Yes it fell apart towards the end but we ended up with Paul fucking Lambert. Let that sink in for a moment and wonder why we are where we are. Bob on that mate

Following on from my earlier comment I remember I could not sit down at League Cup 2nd leg semi final at Anfield as I had had back spasms. Was I suffering.. How I drove down to Kent that night I do not know!. I think I had to crawl to the house.

I don't dislike Mark Hughes for the job he did at Stoke. But I did dislike him for telling me he was just going to put his golf clubs in his car before driving off when I asked him for his autograph as an 8 year old (I forgave him eventually). Fair play to Bryan Robson though, he signed no questions asked............

I rated Hughes very highly till he allowed Huth to go that one thing did it for me as Shawcross was never the same player. In hindsight Huth had the last laugh by going on to win the league with Leicester. This was the single worst thing that was allowed by Hughes. You rightly point out Shawcross was never the same. But Huth also managed to score goals. His first season at Leicester he helped massively to save them from relegation.

Now that is a great comment. Paul Lambert had a hard job. Hughes signed the likes of Berahino and Wimmer and omitted or sold on our best defenders. It was too late in the end and we were relegated and in a shambles thanks to Hughes.

Huth hardly ever featured for Hughes as he was initially injured and then sold. All of our achievements under Hughes were without Huth. As for Ryan, he just grew in stature every season. He was phenomenal when Hughes first joined, single handedly holding together a defence that featured Geoff Cameron at right back, Marc Wilson at centre back and Erik Pieters at left back. In the 2015/16 season, he was one of, if not the, best centre backs in the league by any metric you care to use up until has back injury away at Leicester. You may recall that we didn't concede a single goal when he was on the pitch for something like 12 games.

He had every opportunity to keep us up but couldnt. Seemed a decent bloke but absolutely the wrong appointment

No problem at all with Sparky, watching his and our Stoke side tear Man City apart was the stuff of fantasy now......
Mind you, he did play for the shit... and he is Welsh.

I noticed this article on The Sentinel the other day: www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-hughes-pep-guardiola-8956321?utm_source=mynewsassistant.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=embedded_search_item_mobileHughes did an interview with Sam Allardyce (?) for a podcast (?) and talked about lots of things at Man City and Bradford, but had very little to say about Stoke. At one point, to quote the article: A message was passed on to him from a Stoke fan to say he was their favourite manager but Hughes said: “Is he in a minority of one?”Given how it all ended, I get the impression that he thinks he's persona non grata in the Potteries, which is a shame to my mind. Perhaps the protests that bookends his reign gave him that impression. Yet I'm sure that I'm not alone in thinking back very fondly on his vintage team with Begovic, Shawcross, N'Zonzi, Arnautovic, Bojan and Moses (unrelatedly, one of our most underrated signings). I'd certainly give him a clap if he ever came back to the bet365 with another team
