Nobody wanted them here when they were here. You’ve got to be joking they were welcomed with open arms. Things went to pot when their fortunes took a battering in the financial crash and they started to concentrate on their core businesses but initially they were a breath of fresh air and very popular more so than Coates had ever been in fact I think it’s fair to say he was hated. I cant remember them being popular when they came in and sacked Gary Megson who had lost 1 game in 13.

Anyone got gudjons number ? You clearly never met them... with the exception of gudjon..... they had barely any interest in scfc .... they genuinely thought they could sign the Icelandic team....and walk the league unbeaten..... our chairman was at more man utd games than stoke games......be careful what you wish for It was more of a reminisce at simpler times, there is always shit going on at the top table but for the fans it was happier times. I don't wish the coates gone.

They were very popular and most supporters were very glad to see the back of Coates.

That play off winning Central defensive partnership of Sergei and Handyside were better than what we have now and I'd have James O'Connor before most of today's midfield, rose tinted glasses I suppose, but can never remember those lads not giving it their all.

they finished in the top half of the championship twice, 2 more than we've managed since 2018!

A very good retort to people who say if stoke city had foreign owners then they wouldn't care about the club, would be all money , money , money. Well we did have foreign owners and they did care about the club. To a degree they did but let’s not get too carried away. Started positively but then interfered a wee bit with wanting their fellow countrymen in the team and Gislason refusing to answer his phone on transfer deadline day! But apart from that it was fun!

Gunnarsson, Bjarni, Hanssen Gunlaugsson, Hoekstra, Clive Clarke and even Cutler would get in the side And that side wasn't good enough for this league

Didn't piss me off, I was excited by the Icelandics coming in and was very supportive, my memory of it though is that most people were very sceptical, and were generally lukewarm, I think there were many who never really took to them.

I want the club sold to some rich corrupt Russian Oligarchs.
In the next ten years I want us to have won the Prem League, Champions League and FA cup at least 5 times each.
With our current owners our only chance of winning something is the 3rd/4th place play-off for the Sherpa Van trophy.

They were good for us overall. Took over November 99. Left June 2006. On departure we were stable in a division higher. And when it was clear they lacked the financial clout to take us any further they left. It was OK.

Gudjon settled here - is he still in the area I wonder? Yes he's got a gaff overlooking Tunstall clock tower - occasionally pops in the Sneyd for a swift half and a pie

Without them there would of been no BET 365 and no 10 years in premier league. How do you work that out? Our fortunes changed when Pulis came back for the second time under Coates. If you think moving to the from the Victoria was a good thing, then that's your opinion not mine. Moving from the (virtually derelict) Victoria Ground had nothing to do with the Icelandic consortium.

I knew Gislason quite well. He was a nice bloke and a gentleman to boot. The Icelandics were good for us at the time but that golden share was their undoing. It meant that whatever they wanted to do, Coates could veto it. You can't be major shareholders with no final say on what can or cannot be done. We had some good times under them. And they had nothing to do with moving from the Vic to the Brit. That was down to Coates and his hoppos saving the club from liquidation. They used Moxey to bring that about because the Victoria Ground had been overvalued on the books and they needed money to relocate because the Vic was done for. They were very clever and managed to get the Brit for a song with the help of the council. Although us 'oldies' didn't want to leave our old ground, it was necessary at the time.
OS.
