I may well be completely wrong with this take on things... but... Coates Family and club have been brilliant at all the away from the pitch stuff, away busses, season tickets etc. They're also getting much better at all of the more modern stuff too Ricardos overhaul, Fan zone proposals, and all the big improvements to social media content. Up until Neils tenure, they've failed to put a proper director of football in place with head of recruitment that reports into them, which has meant each time they've had to refresh the manager everything has been stripped out and they've had to start from scratch but also with legacy recruitment hangovers and the financial ties that come with them. this has meant unbalanced teams, or just bad teams, lingering bad moral amongst players. Mangers hamstrung by FFP, previous managers recruitment not fitting their styles, there has been no continuity and no overarching vision. In theory now if and when Alex Neil's bath has run cold, they don't have to throw the bath out with the bath water. Ricky will still be in place and so will Jared. 'In theory' Ricky and Jared will help to hire a manager/coach who can work with the players they have recruited and will continue to recruit. Hopefully this means whoever comes in will be able to get up and running quicker and get a tune out of the players, and add some of there own picked from Jareds list. That is the theory and what JC alluded to when he was questioned at the talk to fans event. I can completely understand the fans frustration... but theres certainly no need for personal attacks on players. We will see if this continuity facilitates progress for Stoke over the next few seasons, whoever the manager happens to be. ***NOTE*** If Ricky & Jared however do end up getting bundled out with Alex Neil, then thats 100% on the Coates and would prove definitively that they don't have a plan, and don't know what they're doing on the pitch side of things. They should then ask John to step a side and put an experienced football head at the helm of the club It would be Ricky and Jared I would be putting under closer scrutiny not AN. The January transfer business led by AN was fine. However in the summer we spent money on players who are making little impact. Hmmmm. Which transfers were led by AN and which were left to the dynamic duo? The manager signs off on every player.

With our manager choices since Hughes being, Alex Neil 28 Aug, 2022 Present Dean Holden 26 Aug, 2022 27 Aug, 2022 Michael O'Neill 08 Nov, 2019 25 Aug, 2022 Rory Delap 01 Nov, 2019 08 Nov, 2019 Nathan Jones 09 Jan, 2019 01 Nov, 2019 Rory Delap 08 Jan, 2019 09 Jan, 2019 Gary Rowett 22 May, 2018 08 Jan, 2019 Paul Lambert 15 Jan, 2018 18 May, 2018 Eddie Niedzwiecki 08 Jan, 2018 15 Jan, 2018 All accept arguably MON failing to succeed at stoke and LambertRowett, Jones, Neil all having successful times at other clubs can we really keep blaming the managers? The "logical" next people to blame is the club owners but we don't really have a leg to stand on when it comes to blaming them because they have backed us with money on many occasions and do lots of positive things away from the pitch than you find at other clubs, also when you look at other clubs around us who have sold up and gone foreign with there owners it seems so unsuccessful throughout that it would make sense that it would go incredibly wrong for us. Then that only really leaves the players to blame but so many groups of players have come through since we went down and they have all been as bad as each other, we have seen full British squads, foreign players, 3 at the back, 5 at the back, wingers, big strikers, fast forwards and nathan jones's bloody diamond and nothing has seemed to work and now we are back where we were from the back end of Mon's Reign where every home game is negative from the start. And as i have been to pretty much every home game since we went down i can only think of a handful of times where we have had anything near a good atmosphere like the old days and probably one in the last year and that was leeds when the club put on a show and got everyone excited before the game. At some point i think we have to look at ourselves rather than pointing fingers everywhere the second things start to look ugly, from this AN squad we have seen glimpses of what they can do and we have seen first hand what AN can do to clubs from when he came here with Sunderland. The home atmosphere since that leeds game has been awful, for instance we have seen tye come back who quite clearly on his day is our best player by miles and he has just come back from an injury and is warming up down the side of the pitch and he's being booed and shouted at, then behind the scenes he's probably got someone trying to get him t sign a new deal every day so we don't lose one of our longest servers and highest scores since we went down on a free. why on earth would he want to stay here and have this every week. As "supporters" i think we can do more to positively effect this season without having to change managers and go back to where we started. when you see clubs who have fallen down the league's and then comeback there's a common denominator that the fans stick with them and eventually things will come good. i know its all good saying this, but then at what point is enough enough with AN. and i think that we can see what he does with a small pot of money in January to tweak the squad as this season will not have gone as expected and then come march if we are still here then obviously we need to look at possible options if he is to go, but i don't think there's anyone that we could quickly snap in now that will save our season. AN has been financially backed and has shown he has what it takes and where we are now under AN surely cant last forever Lets get behind the lads on Saturday and cross our fingers for a few points before Christmas and then a Jarred Dublin masterclass in Jan Added Paul Lambert to your list of successful times at other clubs. Having taken Wycombe to play offs then successive season promotion with Norwich from Div 1 to PL and arguably decent spell at Wolves. Always thought he was harshly treated on this board after trying to sort out the car crash that Hughes had left. OK sure we couldn’t score enough goals or win enough games and he purposefully made that situation worse. How dare anyone think he was a clueless Cnut.

2 x 5 match unbeaten runs. He can't wait to have Grandkids so he can tell them all about it around the fire on a cold winters day........ he's shown on odd occasions at stoke but consistantly as Sunderland Preston and Norwich His Preston side were just making up the numbers in this league. His promotion with Sunderland as at a lower level. He's had far more average seasons in this division than good, and that's what he is, an average manager who is never going to take us out of this league, well not the direction we all want to go anyway.

So, I assume, the transfer gurus present a selection of players for each position that the manager (and the rest of us) have possibly never heard of. Consequently, the blame can’t fall fully on the shoulders of the manager.

I think we can blame the four main ones . Because all of them thought they had hit the jackpot when they joined Stoke and that it would only be a matter of a season before they would be managing in the PL, and then a bigger club would snatch them away from scfc. They eventually found out how badly they had misjudged their choices, and it did their heads in, in various ways for the respective persons. No need to discuss Jones, but Rowett thought he had been given the key to the bet365 money tanks and he could just spend, spend, and spend, reghardless of whether the players were worth the money, because there would be more money to spend ad infinitum. He worked himself into a corner and was soon on his way. O'Neill thought he could revolutionise the club from within and become our first director of football and a board director as well. He had probably the best youth sections since the 70s, but within O'Neill's two years they had all been moved on for alleged disciplinary reasons (talking about the club's own academy players like Verlinden, Edwards, Coates et al not the purchases of the teenaged Souttar and Collins) leaving us with Blondy and Sparrows as the sole remaining players of that crop, with no future in sight for them. I haven't paid that much attention to the faults of Neil, whom I dislike, but there seems to be one or two people currently on his case in the odd thread... They all behaved out of character, but some found their way back their old used to be, having learned from the experience in ST4, and were then relatively more successful. Have any of the academy players that MON allegedly forced out gone on to achieve anything of note? Perhaps they just weren't good enough.

And yet none of them have gone on to achieve anything of note since. There is a big difference between youth football and senior football. They didn't make a name for themselves at Stoke, because they would only have played in the first team over the manager's dead body. And if you don't play for your own club, not many clubs are ghoing to offer you a chance. So it was poor management and also bad business for the club, because very little money was made. However it's not true that the academy players didn't go on to do things of "note". The Sentinel ran a feature on some of them recently, one of those featured was the popular Taylor at Bristol Rovers and Forrester at Vale. But I don't live in England any more and only follow Stoke now, so I don't know the whereabouts of the others.

Look at Germany, Spain, Denmark among others. It's very different there.

As bad as Lambert was, we had more than enough chances in games to stay up. Charlies penalty miss and subsequent rebound where he was fouled where he looked like he was running in treacle being the most obvious. We failed to turn draws into wins by not taking our chances. A problem we have had for about 7 years now. Edited for you. It's complex trying to find one reason , but agree we tolerated Hughes far too long & Charlie can never be forgiven for that penalty fiasco. But .. Money: The Board ( inadvertently ) are to blame as we are seen as a ' golden-payday ' venue due to the Bet365 riches. Why treble AN's salary to come ? wouldn't double have sealed it ? Quite likely we also overpay players who are well past there peak / sell by date - so why would they run their arses off every game ? spin it out as long as you can. So I reckon the perceived Bet 365 money-trough isn't as big a benefit as it would seem ; and is maybe a barrier to progress. We are the graveyard of players ambition. How many of them really want promotion ? In terms of the current crop..... Recruitment - Some recent acquisitions / team selections have been diabolical - eg. Gayle , Stevens. Johnson's last season at Preston was very poor but AN threw money at his old chum. Game management / Team Selection - I need a couple more A4 sheets ! Gayle needs retiring and is Tchamadeu having an affair with AN's wife ? Soft Management - Clearly AN hasn't kicked Hoever or Laurent up the arse ? and if he has , they both want dropping ( or selling in Laurent's case ) Otherwise everything's OK !!

Whoever signed our kit deal over to Macron is to blame for me.
Always feared they'd curse us like they did with Aston Villa and Bolton & have done with Palace on occasions.
Whether a fan of what Macron have produced for Stoke or not (for me some has been good, some ok with a few shockers along the way!), signing them up as our kit manufacturer was the beginning of the end for us.
Its time for a new kit manufacturer to change our fortunes around, sure the Macron curse is what's put us in this rut we've been in & can't seem to get out of!
A side from that they seem to have given SCFC poor service this season so I do wonder if the writings on the wall for Macron. No new stock of already sold out kits especially kids kits for Crimbo is scandalous really. If a products selling, why wouldn't you order or produce more to sell on at retails busiest time?! All very strange..
Gotta be worth a go.. Bin Macron off & watch us flourish! Time for a return to Umbro or even for old times sake & a successful spell, Le Coq Sportif for a third stint!

I want us to try the director of football/coach approach.
Instead of trying to rebuild for diamond, 3-at-the-back, 4-3-3.
Mental that MON inherited a lot of what you'd need for 4-2-3-1 and then shat down our throats with a weird 5-3-2 obsession.
I still think he's a decent bloke who steadied the ship mind.

The Chairman.
I think he thinks he knows football when he clearly doesn’t.
And he hasn’t got the balls/humility to put his hands up and admit he got it wrong.
Just like his Dad didn’t when we were relegated.
The issues then are the issues now.
The club needed a structure that was fit for the modern day and we still don’t have it. We don’t have a system in place that works.
What’s our footballing philosophy?
What do we actually want from football?
What do we want from the club?
What overarching principles do we have?
And there’s loads more questions like that, that should form the base of the team you employ.

Has to be the board, doesn't it?
Baby out with the bathwater, every single time.
The game has changed.

The board have to take a large share of the blame, particularly not being decisive enough to change direction when it's been painfully obvious to the vast majority of Stoke fans that Neil is tactically inept.
We have regressed from last season's poor side which had no idea or pattern of play to a far worse side. It's now so unbalanced, bereft of any really quality, absolutely dire defence, blunt strikeforce, it's hard to know how any manager could have performed any worse.
At the end of last season, Neil was trying to convince us that we needed creativity in the form of wingers. How has that turned out?
The board chose Neil and few objected at the time.
Responsible for this mess, 30% board (they backed their man financially, but failed to react to how bad he is), 70% manager (clueless, absolutely clueless)

Yesterday we had a family Christmas meal in the Waddo. Everything about the experience was first class.
The back office activities at Stoke and fan engagement has improved immeasurably, for that the club must take credit.
Alas however, no matter how good this is, the ability to select a manager and articulate a playing vision as outlined above by Bayern is terrible.
It’s actually pretty impressive how a club so well funded with the ability to utilize resources that only a handful in the championship have can be so inconsistent and poor on the pitch.
The fans certainly don’t help at times, particularly after last weeks game, but ultimately the blame has to fall with the Board.
He needs to go, write off the season and find an up and coming coach who can develop the team with a clearly defined plan.

Well JC doesn't play and he doesn't coach the players.
But he does do, the hiring and firing, the delegating and financing at Stoke city.
And his hiring, firing and delegating , as been awful from day one and continues that way.
The bloke is Mr Consistent.
Consistently awful, with not even a glimmer of hope on the horizon.

Anything that has a name associated with that smarmy sneaky looking French president is likely to bring bad luck.
