Had a bloke drop a car off this evening at work in which I went out to him & asked if he was living the dream.
He replied “not anymore mate but I used to be a professional footballer”.
Obviously I started to quiz him on who he played for, position etc & told him that I’m a st holder down Stoke.
He named West Ham, Bournemouth, Reading, Swindon & also Nothern Ireland in which I was straight on google. Also said that he was a prolific goal scorer back in the 90’s & remembers scoring against Stoke.
He’s off to West Ham on Sunday to watch them play palace but also said that he gets to the odd Stoke game.
I was wondering if anyone on here remembers him as I would have only been a young kid when he was playing. Also, Was he as good as he says?
He went on to say if he could fast forward 30 years, he would be a millionaire now. It’s mind boggling how money has changed in football, He is now out delivering cars all over the country.

He used to manage Nantwich and still played for Willaston White Star 15-20 years ago when he was well into his 40’s. Good player but don’t remember him being the nicest bloke.

He owned a nightclub on High Street in Crewe and his parents lived there and were friends with my Godmother, lived in the same flats Played for N Ireland, good striker

He seemed like a really nice bloke whilst chatting to me, Must have mellowed in his age. What level would he be at in todays game? I said “you were never good enough to wear the famous red & white stripes then” in which he chuckled & jumped back into his truck.

I remember him fairly well although he was probably in the twilight of his career when I got into football. Very much a focal point type striker as I recall and remember I think he got a fair few for Northern Ireland when they were even shitter than they are now.
Just checked Wikipedia and it seems he’s played and managed a fair bit at local clubs which I never knew

Decent striker Macari had him at West Ham (& Swindon?) Scored against us for sure
Now that it's rare for strikers to play in a pair I think a lot of strikers from those days would struggle (& conversely some strikers who struggle now would fare better in the old days) however I think Quinn would be alright in today's game

He's right, he would rake it in now. He's exactly the type of striker stoke need now. He could hold it up, turn his man, win headers, score

Scored a header for Bournemouth in front of the Boothen in the Macari years. Think that was Lou’s first home game. Bertie had given us the lead and we ened up drawing 1-1. Reason I remember is it was my uncle’s wedding and I was responsible for score updates for the guests

Anyway I digress Came into my office to buy pallets with a Leek Town player So he went from deliveries to pallet procurement? He’s probably working in Wall Street by now if that career trajectory is anything to go by
