oh sorry didn't realise the rules on posting, i’ll wait until i have more stars by my name in future 👍🏻 That's fair enough mate I'm only messing and you're totally within your rights to hold your view on not sacking Alex Neil, as totally unfathomable as that may seem to many. That's your view and your entitled to it. I strongly disagree mind. just tired of the same rinse and repeat scenarios. New man comes in, needs time to build his own squad, brings in own backroom team at huge financial cost, new players dont click and results take a turn for the worse, fans begin to get disgruntled and want manager sacked. We need stability, particularly after a major squad overhaul, we simply cant keep ripping it up and starting again.

I never wanted Neil in the first place and I have spoken no support whatsoever for him. But Stoke can't sack him, because he very recently had a by scfc standards long unbeaten run that even included consecutive clean shets, and because he recently signed 18 players to play for him. If he suddenly was let go, some/most/not all of those players would lose direction and motivation, as we have seen when Rowett signed 9 players to play for him, and I can't remember how many O'Neill signed but they certainly didn't stick around very long. Mate we're 17th and capitulating with a team who have no idea what they are doing and a manager who is evidently a million miles away from knowing what his best XI is. How much fucking worse can it get?

A top ten finish? You're joking right? How many fans have gone tonight? Sheffield Wednesday is a sell out. The fans have been brilliant. . Im confused? You dont think a top 10 finish would be a good season? I dont expect that, i didnt before a ball was kicked, but that would be the benchmark for a good season personally. Never in a million years did i think we would be in with a shout at the playoffs. The fans have been awful and i’ll include myself in that. To often we turn up and expect to be entertained, but do little to create any sort of atmosphere. I completely understand as the last few years have sucked the enjoyment out matchdays for so many. On the whole i think far to many have completely unrealistic expectations and haven't come to terms with the fact that we are a midtable at best, championship club. Let me clarify there is no way on God's earth we will finish top ten with this manager. As for the rest it's just rubbish.

As for the rest it's just rubbish. no we probably wont, but please allow me to clarify, a top ten finish would be considered a good season. Your point that in no way on God’s earth would that happen sort of confirms it for me because very few would expect that whether that be fans, pundits or whoever. The rest however is not really rubbish, i dont think we are personally very different from the majority of football fans. When times are good attendances/atmospheres generally reflect that, as they do when times aren't so good. Our attendances dropped the first season we were relegated from the Premier League, i expected it. If we got relegated to League 1 they would drop again, i would be surprised if we averaged 20k. Thats just the fickle football fan, two exceptions of the top of my head and both in our league, Sunderland and Leeds. Both of whom have had recent spells in league 1 and who’s attendances didnt really suffer. Now for me that is an example of your fans being brilliant

Bottom 3? if we were bottom 3 come the new year then probably at that point. Unfortunately our owners have a habit of making big decisions at the wrong times. If we are going to get a new man in then it needs to be when a transfer window is open so he can assess what he has and where he wants to improve. We however are likely to sack Neil at the end of January after a flurry of signings and ask a new man to pick up the mess. Theres been so much transition this season within the playing squad that i personally feel we need just need some stability. Let the lads that need it become accustomed to this league. Theres been signs they have what it takes, but as expected theres also been bumps in the road. Not helped by injuries, poor reffereeing, individual errors and yes of course Neils own fuck ups whether that be team selection or tactics.

I think the OP is kinda right.
But that begs the question why so many are fine with the owners.
As it’s them that make the OP have merit.

Get rid. Get John eustace in. Step in the right direction. John Eustace? Talk about a sideways step he’s another boring manager. We don’t want another average championship manager. With the money we have we need to spend it on a proper manager, just pay Potter whatever he wants, have some ambition Coates! Would perhaps do a little more research on Eustace and what he did in his short time at Brum before writing him off. Left em in the playoffs as well. There won’t be much better out there unless we break the bank for Bielsa

Those saying get Graham Potter in, he is currently being lined up to replace Pioli at AC Milan, so let's keep it realistic eh?

The owners arn't going anywhere. we just role the dice again and hope at some point we get double six. At the moment we just got to hope there are three worse teams than us this season. Fingers crossed.

Rafa? 😊 I'm honestly so frustrated at the way the club is run that I'm borderline carefree about who we get unless we actually do something proactive and recruit a progressive head coach with a DoF. However, unlikely coates will change the model, so we can look forward to many more years of dross.

I don’t know if I’m fickle or the last two games would throw anyone into the Neil out camp, but I think I’d be talking to anyone decent who’s available. I think maybe Eustace but that’s based on a relatively short spell at Birmingham, although he did well. I’d steer clear of the Wilder’s etc as that’d be another disaster in my opinion. No change guarantees anything but 7 conceded in 2 and another false dawn, probably proves this is just not the job for Neil. I’ve tried to stay positive and wanted him and this squad to work, but it just doesn’t look like he’ll ever get us close to where we want to be. What a fucking awful 6/7 years this has been for Stoke. Relegated and not threatened to do anything at all to rectify it. Not even a sniff of a play off push and a scarily close battle with relegation. I can’t even be arsed to think about this weekend or beyond now. 100%

I hate to say it but I’m past fucking caring, I’ve had the stuffing kicked out of me. I have never felt so disconnected from a Stoke team like I am with this bunch of shithouses. Does a single one of them give a fuck? Good point. Me too to be honest.

John Eustace will be contacted very soon I would imagine. Given his nationality and relative success with a Championship club he is nailed on to become next Manager. But only if we act quickly. He wont be available for long.

Surely the cheapest way to change managers is to bring in a new manager who has had success with the formation the squad is set up to play. The only time i would bring in a new team is if there were personality clashes or many players at the end of their contract who do not wish to renew.

From 2002/2003 to 2007/2008 (6 Seasons) and now 2018/2019 to 2023/2024 (we'll say it won't happen this season, so six seasons) in the Championship we've finished in the Top 6 once and top 10 twice. It's been 16th, 15th, 14th, 14th and 16th since 2018/19.
Only Pulis came close with 8th (2006/07), and then did the job the following season. He did it with a bunch of junkyard dogs - and that is no disrespect to the best team we've had in this division this century.
I don't know what the answer is, our best 11 looks competitive on paper, but it appears neither does anyone else. Every time we get a couple of wins and the hope of a real run eventuates, we piss it up the wall.
Hang in there.

We are going nowhere with Neil.
Still no consistency in team selection, formation or an ethos on how we play
Completely inconsistent, we’ll get the odd decent result and he’ll proclaim we are making progress but the truth is we are stuck in a ruck of mediocrity with Neil and as long as he’s in charge it’ll never change.
Results over his tenure speak louder than words.
We could win the next 3 but then we’ll self implode again.
Change it now

Of course we can sack him, we should and we will - the $64000 question is WHEN - indeed, it should have been done already but as ever we dither, procrastinate and ultimately self-harm for reasons known only to a select few and contrary to the fingers-in-the-ears la la la mob there are always plenty of credible (and AVAILABLE) candidates out there if you care to look properly.
The club has become a joke and any reputation built during our “golden” era completely squandered through a sequence of bad choices, the latest of which is the very worst in my view….

It's the way of the championship, but...it'll look a lot worse when we've lost to Plymouth, Wednesday, and Swansea...

The constant firing and hiring shows those at the top don’t know what they’re doing. If we beat Sunderland that day at the start of last season he sent end up our manager. That’s how scary it seems the process has been.
The constant excuse for our demise are infuriating and the bird never accept any responsibility. The fans also do not voice their displeasure and have been brow beaten into the acceptance of mediocrity.
We are financially stable simply as a result of the family’s riches and nothing else. There no need for the owners to be savvy and it shows.
We need esxperienced football people running the club- not charlatans like Martin n his mate who’ve never played the game.
The recruitment went to far and left us with too many players, and many Neil just doesn’t know what to do with. Many of them are shockingly poor too.
After all those signings- no goalkeeper, a shocking back line and no goal scorer. That shows the total lack of thought and planning.
For that- the axe should be sharpened and the chopping block out in place. For all of them.
This can’t go on- who knows what the answer is?!

I suspect he would have been given guarantees of a minimum term in order to get him to jump ship. I’d be amazed if the club feels able to dump him before the end of this season.

Their career histories don’t really have a massive overlap they’re not a team. The recruitment looks promising, the manager either won’t use them or doesn’t know how best to use them so he goes for his comfort blankets (DJ, ES, will CC join them god help us) at every opportunity. I’d definitely want to retain Dublin not so much RM I’d prefer an older head with a better pedigree and contacts list supporting a young progressive head coach preferably with a record of producing high scoring football somewhere.
