Just watching this event (always with a lump in my throat) no one in the world can manage events like we can love watching the old boys and girls come through. Now they were tough. (unlike the dipsticks who were there yesterday) Ps Rishi Sunak please ask your wife to send you to a proper tailor and get some trousers the correct length I’m sure she can afford it

It was a shame the leader on the SNP didn't sing the national anthem 😕 the only one in picture not doing so.

It's a shame that Braverman can't even respect the poppy and wear it on the left over her heart.
She literally doesn't have a clue.

Talk about being made of the right stuff. As a caveat, the American military cemetery in Normandy is absolutely pristine, they honour their fallen impeccably too.

I was just at the Stoke one, good turnout, especially given the weather, I left as soon as the religious stuff started and went for a coffee in the Bod bar, presumably they sung the National anthem after that. Now going to watch people (probably) get pissed at an Army reserve centre, I can't turn down a free buffet 😃

That's exactly the same.

There is a joint cemetery near Etaples with Comonwealth, French and German buried there. The comonwealth section is pristine as are all the 288 cemeteries in northern France and Belgium

I went there earlier in the year, one of those must visit sites…… We went to the German cemetery at Recogne during the same tour, which contains the graves of around 7,000 soldiers (around three or four to one grave, if I remember correctly). It was clean and tidy, if not as immaculate as the Americans', but our guide pointed out that it had at one time been neglected and overgrown. According to him, the German War Graves Commission has on occasion struggled to obtain sufficient funding from the government and is reliant on private donations in order to cover the full costs of upkeep (he also said that the cemetery hardly ever receives German visitors, just as a German couple pulled up on a motorbike).

Many of us ex Royal Navy guys on here knew Andy Larkin, who in 81 was the youngest on HMS Sheffield that got sank in the Falklands. Andy survived, but several years later took his own life. RIP Andy, and thanks for your service.

Yep, I grew up around the corner from Andy, we used to walk to Sea cadets together before they moved away, he was a year younger than me, and he joined the Sheffield after me, saw him a few times after the Falklands at matches and around town. RIP.

I took my dad's ashes to be put in with his brothers grave at the Reichswald war cemetery near to Kleeve in Germany, died March 45, just a few weeks away from the end of it. The young ages of them from regiments all over the UK, such a waste of life. It was impeccably kept. A few videos called 'operation veritable' on YouTube of their push to get across the Rhine.

My great uncle Arthur left the house and street I live in 1943, and never came back. After surviving Norway and North Africa he perished in Sicily and rests in Syracuse war cemetery on the island. I’ve seen a photo of the grave on the internet and as expected it is immaculate. I dearly hope to visit one day. My instinct says that Arthur would like to be on Boot Hill above Newcastle with the rest of his family, but as it was he rests where he was killed. I think about Arthur a lot, he drank in the same local as me, supported Stoke and just did ordinary things. I’m just sorry Arthur missed out on the post war prosperity and the chance to have a family and live in peace.

The Airborne cemetery at Oosterbeek is well worth a visit, again, absolutely pristine and wonderfully peaceful. Oosterbeek is where Jack Baskeyfield performed the action for which he was awarded his posthumous Victoria Cross, although he isn't buried in that cemetery. There is a memorial tree on the corner where he died, though.

If only someone had come up with an idea to encourage the people of Europe to live in peace and harmony, so that nobody's dad had to end up being remembered in this way. That might have been a better tribute to their sacrifice.

Went to my local service. Been going for years and used to lay a wreath. So many of the older WWII veterans gone. Even the SAMA Falkland vets are old now. What is nice to see is something creeping in with youngsters wearing what I’m assuming is long since passed relatives medals and bars. I know it’s not correct etiquette, but nice for the youngsters to relate to it and hopefully retain the commitment to such an important thing for many, many years to come.

Have your own little private demonstration by all means, that's your choice, but do you really need to let us all know you are un patriotic.. WE FUCKING WELL KNOW YOU ARE.. TIT...

The German cemetery on Cannock Chase is interesting. The last time I went there, there were quite a lot of Germans paying homage to their dead. It's quite moving too when you see that many killed were just kids really. We often forget that most in the German forces were conscripts, just like our lads and lasses fighting a war they didn't want. They were not all Waffen SS, who were the real bastards.
I was quite moved today to see so many vets from the Falklands War in the march. They were made of the same stuff as the lads and lasses who fought in both world wars. I doff my flat cap to all of them.
OS.
