Coming up at the end of the month. I saw the first one which bizarrely was the same weekend as the Kennedy Assassination. It was so good that the first episode was repeated
The BBC has old episodes on I Player . I watched a 1971 episode “ The Deamons” with Pertwee and Manning , the plot was based, it seemed to me , was lifted from a Nigel Neale Quatemass series. It was filmed on location in Wiltshire . The radiophonic music by Dudley Simpson was atmospheric . A rather enjoyable romp with occultist theme.
Much prefer the 4 episode approach as it allows the plot to develop. Tend to think that modern episodes are too busy

Tend to think that modern episodes are too busy Doctor Who was a huge part of my younger years. I can honestly say I’ve barely watched any of the new stuff as it just doesn’t seem the same even more so when they bought in a female doctor (that worked well didnt it I was bought up on Tom Baker and Peter Davidson and then started to buy the videos and now DVDs of Hartnell, Troughton and Pertwee and found they were equally as good. They’ve definitely dated but in some ways I think that adds to the nostalgia. Great that they’ve bought them onto BBC I player and that they include the animated “missing episodes” which was a superb idea. If you’ve not seen them all I can recommend my top 5 as - Pyramid of Mars - Tom Baker - Evil of the Daleks - Troughton - Dalek Invasion of Earth - Hartnell - Terror of the Autons - Pertwee - City of Death - Baker

I really enjoyed Ecclestone and Tenant as the doctor, Matt Smith grew on me but boy did it go downhill when Davies left
not really ever got into classic who as its known apparently
But Davies is back so lets see if he can get it back on track going forwards
special shout out for Torchwood too which i though was excellent

I haven't seen a single episode. Was Peter Capaldi any good as Doctor Who (#12)?

Speaking of Quaternass, the John Mills series I loved as a kid. Watched again recently.

I remember as a kid you never missed Dr Who. And when the Daleks came along it just went to another level
Looking back now it’s very dated and is nothing compared to modern sci Fi
Haven’t watched it for probably forty years and I’m surprised it’s lasted like it has but for my generation it was definitely a big part of childhood

I haven't seen a single episode. Was Peter Capaldi any good as Doctor Who (#12)? he played it well but the script was just terrible, it went through a massive period of leaving behind its sci fi roots and trying to be very PC and then it got worse when he left and Jodie Whittaker took over he could be very menacing but the next second he became a comic idiot!

Watching Jodie Whittaker in " Time" made me think what a good doctor she could have been with a good writer and script

I still maintain that Jarvis Cocker would make a great Doctor.

If they were going to get a chick to do it,I always thought Joanna Lumley would nail it.
As with everything BBC they went crazy PC , especially the story lines and the ratings plummeted
A non binary Davros would just about kill the show .
The Brigadier would never have stood for this rubbish

Dr who is nothing to do with the BBC anymore, it’s run by bad wolf productions which is run by Russell T Davies. So if you’re going to blame anyone blame him.

Tom Baker was and still is my favourite doctor. I even got my nan to knit me a massive scarf just like his. He kind of reminded me of my dad with his big curly hair as well.
Plus he had some great stories; City of Death Robots of death Keeper of Traken Logopolis Pyramids of Mars Genesis of the daleks
And he had my all time fave sidekick in the gorgeous Mary Tamm as Romana 1.

The first Dr I watched as a kid was Pertwee and still one of my favourites.
Matt Smith made a guest appearance as the Dr at the Orbital set at Glastonbury a few years ago after doing their version of the theme tune. Guest appearances don't get better than that. Or was it the brownies kicking in?
Also saw the BBC electronic workshop do a set a few years ago at Womad. As well as the music they gave a really interesting insight into just how inventive they had to be at that time to make that sort of music (no iPads kids).
There's also a really interesting documentary worth digging out about Delia Derbyshire - one of the great pioneers of electronic music. She effectively invented sampling using magnetic tape and a pair of scissors.

Russell T Davies has returned as scriptwriter/producer and recently issued a warning that Dr Who may not be suitable for kids as it's set to go a bit "weird, dark and violent".
Sounds great! A bit more 'Black Mirror' would be very welcome while retaining the original concept.
Not being an avid fan generally, I hope it does become more watchable again. Nothing against Jodie Whitaker or the concept of a female Doctor, but it was too boring to bother with for some time now.

Nicola Bryant was always my favourite assistant especially as she occupied the hormonal teenage years! (Challenged latterly by Karen Gillan it has to be said). Peri, Dr Who, 1980s...🙂 And still fit as fuck at 63...🥰
